Re: Serindë's Stitching adventure 2024 17 May

I thought so, but I'm always happy to have a second opinion. I am now over a quarter of the year done -- indeed, over a third -- am I can't say each day comes naturally to me yet! I often think I should take my time, except that I already stitch slowly. Let's just say I'm probably overcomplicating t...

Re: Serindë's Stitching adventure 2024 11 May

Yes, I did couch it down --- not particularly well, it must be said, and I may try to sneak a few more "aurora" threads in where it's a bit thin. But it did the job. (Is brighter in real life: the colour is Caron threads "Aurora", spookily enough.) https://i.postimg.cc/Yqp15BC7/t...

Re: 2024 Stash & Grab Virtual Pub

I try to limit my stitch posting to once a week because no one else seems to be cross stitching anything. We seem to have lost Wendy when the forum crashed, I saw Nicola commented on a post the other day but no stitching updates and of course it is ages since we heard from Lyudmilla or Sally. I've ...

Re: 2024 Stash & Grab Virtual Pub

Not as much as I'd like to :-( - partly for very pleasant reasons like outings and a cousin visiting from the Netherlands, partly work and other commitments, but it means I have done no Certificate homework at all, and FoF is sadly neglected. Also, my eye problems are getting worse, which is worryi...

Re: 2024 Stash & Grab Virtual Pub

Thought I'd come in a dust, polish some glasses, tidy up the broken crockery destress suite. It's been very quiet on the forum lately. How's everyone doing? I'm now set up to start a small weaving for my summer course and then there's the garden. But I'm still beavering away at my daily stitch (thou...

Re: Serinde lives up to her name update 30 Apr 2024

And because I am doing this online course, in preparation, I decided to divide all my tapestry wools into one of 24 colour categories and store them that way. Easier to find different colour palettes. (I purchased this useful thing years ago: https://www.handweavers.co.uk/ultimate-3in1-color-tool-jo...

Re: 2024 Deliveries & Stash Acquisition

I remember my first few meetings with my present Guild, and feeling like I didn't really want a lecture on a Saturday morning. But each session's programme is different. Ours is now a better balance of hands-on and talks, especially because tech allows us to tap into interesting professionals whom w...

Re: 2024 Deliveries & Stash Acquisition

Arrietty is gorgeous!! Before you do anything further (like buy stuff) find your local Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers (wsd.org.uk) and join it. There you are likely to be able to initially borrow kit as well as pick the brains of like-minded folk. I’ve just started spindle spinning… another ra...

Aw, thank you so much. It’s such an interesting exercise. I find myself paying more attention to my surroundings, and I enjoy the serendipitous nature of the whole thing.

Re: Serindë's Stitching adventure 2024 11 May

I’m using Caron Wildflowers “Aurora” (043) to stitch… the aurora (not that I saw more than the streams of particles — looked like clouds but wrong — too straight. This is in the stitch journal. I’m using long (2in) strands, a sort of satin stitch, which keeps the colors together well, but I still ha...

It could be all these things!

I'm now embarking on a Summer of Tapestry online course (runs until July, although the platform is available "forever"), and as it happens the theme this year is an exploration of colour. Serendipity, I call it.

Ha! never could tell my left from my right (which is why I only ever wear one ring; suspect I'm actually ambidextrous, with a slightly more dominant right hand).
