Re: 2024 Word Game
moonlight With my 2nd, the staff had written across the bottom of my notes in big friendly letters BIG BABY. He was 9lb4oz, and got himself born with a minimum of fuss, although he did play "shall I?; shan't I?" across my tailbone for an hour... At least he got his own birthdate in what se...

Re: Mabel's RSN Certificate - canvas
I just love the colour combinations. From a distance, they will look so true to life. The pavement texture is also very interesting. Looks simpler than I'm sure it must be to execute.

Exactly. It's the same sort of thing. That's where being able to simplify is important.

Re: Serinde lives up to her name update 29 May 2024
The weaving is tiny: 9x6cm. Not a lot of room for detail! And that's the point, really. Simplification is really hard. one's inclination is to put in so much more detail, but weaving tiny pieces doesn't allow this. I keep thinking like an embroiderer -- imagine the detail I could have included, even...

Re: Serinde lives up to her name update 29 May 2024
Oh, that's definitely true! When you work with such slow crafts (embroidery, weaving), it's almost impossible to give up a piece. You always think you can salvage it if you do this or that. The next piece is about light, for which I have an idea I'm going to be sketching out. If it works out, I migh...

Re: Serinde lives up to her name update 14 May 2024
Here's the first attempt. There is SO MUCH wrong with this weaving... but I was experimenting with a warp that was, it turned out, too slender for the weft with a sett that was also wrong (should have been 12 warps/inch instead of 7.5). Luckily, you can't tell how "sleazy" (by which I mean...

Re: 2024 Quick Daily Posts
Thought your work schedule had taken over, which was why we hadn't been seeing you much here. You are allowed to collapse into a deck chair (or whatever) with a cold (or hot) something in a glass (or mug) after you return home on Friday. MIL being out of hospital is probably a better thing for all, ...

Re: Talking of socks
The difference with your sock stash, of course, is that you actually use it. I rearrange my wool stash, and occasionally pet the silk stuff, but actually use it? Heresy!

Agree with Mabel. This is a complicated design by the mistress of complicated designs. Slower perhaps, but well worth it.

Re: Quilting?
No wonder crazy quilting is very popular! I guess I never realised the precision needed for these named quilt designs, like Flying Geese or (my favourite name) Burgoyne Surrounded. Good luck!
