Re: DMC's coming out with new colours
I'll buy the first ones in the pack if it's about the same price as individuals, since I can smack a 40% coupon on it easy enough. I wonder how they're going to work in the full rack setup since 16 is only usually 1/2 of a shelf rack. Maybe they will break up the variegated colors so they can be pu...

Random Sale Makes Me Happy
So I spent some money this last month between a trip to visit a "new to me" shop, a 20% off sale at my favorite local shop, and the DMC sale at Jo-Ann's. Then on Friday it's close to the end of the day and I get an email from my favorite local shop letting me know they are clearing out a b...

Re: Some novice questions...sorry if this isn't the right sp
Those potters probably got on your case because painters and sculptors don't consider what they do as art. I'm not kidding, go read up on some of the snobbish behavior between "fine art" (paintings, sculpture) and "decorative art" or "functional art" (woodworking, porce...

Cool Connection
My mother-in-law is a quilter. She was in town this weekend to attend a quilting show. I went along to see if there were any cross-stitch supplies and to check out the fabrics. At one booth I was talking to the woman working there and she is the daughter of a famous quilter and does cross-stitch! We...

Re: Jo-Ann Floss Sale on Aug 10th - 27cents each
I got most of the colors I was missing up to number 800. Just a handful of them weren't in stock. I probably could have kept going but I also picked up 4 patterns this week. My local independent shop had a 20% off sale. I hope Jo-Ann's has another sale like this soon so I can pick up the rest!

Re: Stitching Gifts for People???
Me.. I wouldn't put the time in designing and stitching for someone if I thought they were fussy about their decor. I say this as a person that is picky about my own walls. But something smaller, I don't stress out as much about. I can have more fun with table top photos. There is something "p...

Re: Stitching Gifts for People???
Honestly I worry more about people not appreciating the gift because of the amount I spent on framing. Some people equate handmade with "inexpensive" regardless of the object as though your time isn't worth much or the supplies didn't cost you anything. I've done presents for people where ...

Might be a good time to make a few small ornaments? Maybe some guest hand towels? Organize your stash?

Well I guess the big sale is your silver lining.
But yes, it sucks when you lose a good shop.

Re: OT-funny DS moment
I had fun with my son this weekend, too. On Saturday I was trying to convince my 3 year old that we would go on a "picnic" for dinner (drive through place that has a couple of outdoor tables) and then go to the mall to run errands. It takes me an hour to get him going because he wants to g...

Re: OT for the Brits
The zig zags mean keep clear/no parking - not even for two seconds to let someone out. Yellow box junctions - do not enter unless your exit road is clear unless you are turning right. Some in London now have enforcement cameras on them and it's an instant fine if you break the rules. If I just fly ...

Re: I'm not enjoying it...
I would go ahead and chuck it for a different project. This is supposed to be fun, not a chore, and definitely not a source of frustration. You only have so many hours in your lifetime where you will be able stitch, don't waste any of them on "have to" projects.

Re: OT for the Brits
Do you not have a stop at the pedestrian crossings? Usually here in the States for crossings that aren't also at an intersection, there is either a stop sign (requiring a full stop no matter what) at each crossing or a stop light that a pedestrian pushes a button to make the light turn.

OT for the Brits
Okay here is my very silly question. There is a road marking painted on British roads that we don't have in the US. I see it all the time in London based movies and for some reason I must now know. So what exactly does it mean when you are driving on the road and you hit the zigzag patch that looks ...

Re: Jo-Ann Floss Sale on Aug 10th - 27cents each
Dang it! The nearest Jo-ann's is an hour away from me. My local Wal-Mart sells DMC at 30cents. Afraid I'll spend more in gas getting there and have to dodge bad drivers in traffic. But Jo-ann's sells Thread Heaven which I need and the closest store has it in stock. Don't know if it's justifiable to...
