Re: Newbie beading question
Good points! My gut was telling me to just cough up the extra $10 or so for the magnifica beads, but my frugal side always say "Really? But wouldn't this work just as well?" In the big scheme of things, the difference in cost is pretty insignificant.

Re: Newbie beading question
Thanks for the information! (I guess I wasn't looking so much for actual specs about the beads as for advice. I've never worked with beads before, so I don't know anything about how they behave on cross stitch.) I can see that they're different and what the differences are -- any thoughts on if they...

Newbie beading question
I want to make the Crescent Moon Dragon in Joan Elliott's Bewitching Cross Stitch book. It calls for Mill Hill Magnifica seed beads. I'm wondering what the difference is between the magnifica beads and the regular Mill Hill seed beads (besides price). Is there any reason I wouldn't want to substitut...

Once Upon a Time progress
I'm new to the forum, and I thought I'd share my progress on one of my WIPs. This is my Once Upon a Time Sampler from the Frosted Pumpkin. http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q156/kelleyjogirl/017-3.jpg (If there's a more appropriate place to share finishes and WIPs, please let me know! I'm still lea...

Re: How do you organize your floss?
I'm loving hearing about everyone different storage systems. There are some really cool things out there, but I'm not even tempted to abandon my bobbins. They just make sense to me, and they take up so little space. I guess I was meant to be a bobbin girl.

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher
1. I'm a floss licker 2. I love my bobbins. Neat, tidy little bundles of color all lined up in wee boxes. It makes me happy. 3. I have yet to stitch on anything but Aida, and I'm kinda scared to try. 4. I'm not all that wild about most HAED for my own purposes, but I really enjoy seeing and hearing ...

Re: how did you start?
I remember learning to cross stitch from my mom when I was around 8 or 9. She had this little booklet of minis. I can't remember working on a specific project, but I can remember the booklet. It's funny, because she NEVER cross stitches. She must've just picked it up for something to teach me to do,...

Re: Has the Postman brought you anything fun in 2014
I just got my first Q Snaps in the mail -- 8x8 and 17x17, with an 11x11 to be delivered next week in a separate package, for some reason. (No pics, but you all know what Q snaps look like . . . ) I was so excited to try them, but I've only opened the 8x8 so far. I'm kind of scared to open the larger...

Oooooh! I love that peacock set! Now, why didn't I see them at either of my Hobby Lobbies last week when I was shopping for cross stitch stuff? . . .

Re: Q snaps
That's good to know! I ordered the 8x8, 11x11, and 17x17 (thinking I could combine them to make other sizes like 11x17 etc), but they're a bit heavier than I'd expected. I like the 8x8 so far (I just started using it today), but I'm imagining some major wrist ache and general clutziness with the lar...

Q snaps
I just bought some Q snaps for a larger project, and it just seems so huge and awkward. Do any of you use the 11x17 or 17x17 frames for lap work, or do you find you need a stand to use them comfortably?
Any tips for how to hold them for use without a stand?

Hi from Michigan
Hi, everyone! I'm Kelley, and I'm a newbie to this forum. The last time I did any substantial amount of stitching was when I was pregnant with my oldest, who is now 8. I started a set of Prairie Schooler farm animals that I was going to hang up in the nursery. I got through three of them and then se...
