Re: HAED SK History of Chocolate by Randal Spangler

Only 5.5 years from start to finish! I've actually been done for two months, but I didn't want to show it till I had time to clean and press it. Now I just need to figure out a good way to finish it into a usable bookmark. As a reminder, this is on 28 count Lugana and it is 2.25" x 12.5" (...

Re: Quick daily posts

Never a dull moment is there?

I seem to only clean the gutters out when it is pouring down so hard that they are overflowing.

Re: Quick daily posts

Two days ago my 4 year old daughter went in for her annual checkup at the doctor's office. After getting a clean bill of health they gave her several vaccination shots plus the flu shot. Not too unexpectedly, she developed flu-like symptoms yesterday with her getting very tired and her temperature r...

No, I can see the grid all around me.

I guess if a printed invoice is accepted that works, but they could be easily modified before printing.

Re: Quick daily posts

Blended threads can be managed without too much extra work. Just treat the blended symbols like you would the solids except that when you need more thread you pull a strand from each color rather than two from the same. I use bobbins and put a length of each color on the blend bobbin and when that i...

Re: Quick daily posts

I remember Smokey the Bear (Only YOU can prevent forest fires) which seemed quaint to me in Illinois, where there weren't any forests to speak of. But we all had the drills and got the message. That is exactly what I mean. You weren't even near a forest and know of Smokey the Bear. I don't think we...

Re: Quick daily posts

Richard, our buildings are wood framed and often times the exterior siding is wood as well and we've already seen "small" scale evacuations cause hours long traffic jams so you are correct on both of those points. Should a fire hit the city we live in there would be no easy or fast escape ...

Re: Quick daily posts

The smoke every summer is unfortunately becoming the new normal so we just need to equip with N95 masks and better air filters for the house to help knock the smoke down. The crazy part is where the fires are burning and how quickly they spread. We are far enough into the city to not be at risk from...

Re: Quick daily posts

Normally when the sky gets dark and the wind picks up you stop what you are doing and go inside because a big storm is about to hit. This happened Monday afternoon, but not a drop of rain fell. A summer wind storm is rare around here, but we were expecting it. What was not expected is that smoke ble...

Re: Quick daily posts

We only get 36" (914mm) a year. But 50 miles to the west they get 88" (2230mm) and 100 miles to the east they get 10" (250mm). The dramatic difference is the ocean in the west and between here and the east is a mountain range running north-south which causes a rain shadow on the east.

Re: Quick daily posts

I'm a very security minded person so now that we're home from our holiday I can finally say that I've been on holiday the past week. Thus the bats in our bedroom as the house that we were staying at inexplicably didn't have a screen door for the door that led to a small deck off of our bedroom. We h...

Re: Quick daily posts

I woke up at 3:30am to the sound of wings fluttering. I switched on the lamp to confirm what I already knew. Not one, but two bats were circling the bedroom looking for the way out. Thankfully after a few minutes they both found their way back out the door left open for fresh air. For some reason my...

Re: Quick daily posts

Yesterday we drove through the small town of Boring, Oregon. Normally it is uneventful, but this time we noticed a sign that said "Paired with Dull, Scotland". A little research showed that Bland, NSW was also part of the group. I've never had such an interesting trip through Boring.

Re: Quick daily posts

Our high temperatures for the past week have been 90-100F (32-38C) which is above average, but not out of line for this time of year. This morning was unusual in that cloud cover has kept us around 65F(18C) for the morning. The clouds are expected to leave around noon then it will zip up to 86F(30C)...

Re: Quick daily posts

Well, it's raining here. I've yet to hear you say anything that I don't like about your weather. Where we live it rains 9 months of the year then it is like the tap is shut off and it gets dry and "hot" for 3 months from July through September. Some years the temperature never gets above ...

Re: Quick daily posts

And Steve...what was it that fell between your son’s bed and the wall that started your entire adventure? He has a lamp in his bedroom with a bulb that can be controlled with a remote to turn it on/off and change colors. Somehow he managed to get the remote to the far side of his bed and down the s...

Re: Quick daily posts

It started at 4am with my son yelling "daddy!" with such urgency that I bolted to his room prepared for a major emergency. As it turns out something had fallen between his bed and the wall. Thankfully I convinced him to wait till morning and we'd look for it then. That should have been the...

Re: Quick daily posts

This week to save money my employer has been shutdown and everyone sent home (we can choose to be unpaid or use up holiday time). My wife was at work today and I was home with the kids and a bunch of things to get done. Some people speak of wearing multiple hats, but today I was wearing multiple out...
