Re: Any quilter's around here . . .

Squirrel: Thank you for the information. Hmmm, I hadn't taken the thickness of the mattress into consideration. This was supposed to to be a small project to ease me back into quilting it's getting bigger by the minute. Back to the drawing board . . .

Any quilter's around here . . .

Hi, I am returning to quilting after a 10 year break and ...mannn... am I rusty!!! I know that the standard size for a crib mattress is 28" x 52". Could anyone tell me exactly what size quilt I should make. I can see making it 28" wide perhaps adding an extra inch or two on each side ...

Re: Bargello Needlepoint . . .

Mabel & Serinde: Thank you. My questions are not to do with technique. They are to do with what kind of thread they are getting the best coverage with. I don't want to use tapestry wool. I am looking to use a finer mess such as 18, 22 and 25. I have experimented but am not entirely content and w...

Bargello Needlepoint . . .

Hi,

Does anyone indulge in Bargello needlepoint these days with the present line-up of threads at our disposal? Would love to ask a couple of questions if you don't mind. Thanks.

Needlepoint question . . .

Hi, I have never seen Madiera cotton and am not able to purchase it locally. Does anyone know if DMC perle cotton #3 or #5 would be a suitable equivalent? If not could anyone suggest an alternative? It is my preference to use something with a big of sheen as opposed to wool. I guess I should mention...

Cross stitch on linen . . .

I am really enjoying cross stitch being a newbie and all and have made the leap to cross stitch on linen. I really like the look of it. I am currently working on 25 count Dublin linen and hope to move on to 28 count Cashel soon. I am however concerned about straining my eyes working on the higher co...

Re: Samplers . . .

ali-cat: Thanks for the laugh and information but mostly the laugh!!! Too funny!

Cecilia: Now I'm getting the picture, thank you! I wondered because nowadays what passes as a sampler seems quite different from what once was considered a sampler.

Samplers . . .

What exactly makes a sampler a sampler? I thought it was needlework that incorporated different stitches but having looked through books that doesn't always seem to be the case. Is there a general rule of thumb when it comes to what is a sampler and what is not? Just wondering . . .

Re: Will be starting a HAED soon!

I'm fairly new around here and new to cross stitch hence my question, what does "HAED" stand for?

Re: Blackwork . . .

Another blackwork question, hope you don't mind . . . Although using a higher count aida/evenweave linen in counted needlework is typically thought to give a more detailed finer look is there a particular count of aida and evenweave linen that is better to use for blackwork? I am wondering if using ...

Re: Blackwork . . .

Kell: It never occurred to me to do it that way. Sounds like an easier approah, hmmm
:thinks: might give that a go.

Mabel: Good to know! Just wanted to make sure I am on the right track. The books I have read are good but don't get that specific. Appreciate the input!

Hello, I am wondering if anyone here does blackwork on evenweave (linen). I am new to it and have a question pertaing to doing the outline with double running stich. After you have done the first journey around and it is time to reverse and do the 2nd journey do you pierce through the thread that is...
