Re: What's the best stitchy purchase you've ever made?

Mine would be my new magnifying lamp which magnifies 5 times and make things so much easier. Second would be the 2 metres of 32 ct. linen I found at an op shop and cost me $A1

Re: Where has everyone gone?

I'm another one who hasn't been on here for quite some time. Due to eye problems I haven't done any stitching in a couple of years but I recently had eye surgery and am due to get new eye glasses shortly. Hopefully after that I will be able to pick up a needle and get on with what I was stitching on...

Re: What's going to happen to our work after we're gone?

I've been having those exact thoughts recently. I am waiting to go into an aged care facility and won't have the space for all my finished projects to hang. I have a few friends who are interested in having something of mine to hang on their walls but as I have over 100 finishes here, not all framed...

This is a very true to life rose, thankyou Amanda. I really prefer the backstitched version, but then I prefer to backstitch all of my projects.

Re: Anyone recognize this sampler?

I stitched the Merry Christmas, 5 Santa design many years ago (still comes out every Christmas) I'm not sure if I still have the chart but if you are interested I would have a search and mail it to you.

Re: What do you do with finished projects?

I always had most of my stitching on my walls but will soon be moving into an aged care home where I will be limited on what I can hang. Because of the expense of framing I turned as many of my finished pieces as possible into bellpulls. Recently I had a friend make me a 3 fold screen that will fit ...

Re: Quick Question About The Silver Needle

I live in Australia and while I haven't ordered from Silver Needle for a while I always found them very prompt with deliveries. They were also good at advising if there was a delay.

Re: Aida or Evenweave?

It's very much a personal choice. I have stitched on everything from sackcloth to linen, used aida for years but since discovering linen and evenweaves never use anything else. I make a lot of my work into wall hangings and find they hang better in the softer fabrics.

Re: Baby shawl

I'm another who has made several afghans in the past and also ran my thread under stitches at the back and then back through at least 3. I wouldn't advise using the sticky backed fabric on the back of the stitching, it wouldn't wash well (learned that the hard way) Also, I always put things I have s...

Back after long, long absence

Almost 9 months to be exact. Thanks Sally for keeping in touch. DS and I moved into a flat together last November. The week before we moved my notebook died and as reception where we are was so poor I didn't bother looking for a new one until last week. Reception could still be better but at least i...

Re: OT: My trip across the Pond!!

That is so exciting, Carole. I did a similar trip in 2005 and had a wonderful time meeting friends from a forum we were all members of. They used to have regular get togethers so arranged one for the time I was there. I also stayed with people in their homes. 6 weeks away and I only spent one night ...

You're are the second person I know who was given a huge stash over the weekend!!!! My friend was given so much she had to make a second trip with her car to get it all home. You are both very lucky and I know you will put it all to good use.

The self adhesive felt is plenty strong enough, it's all I ever use for backing single sided bookmarks and ornaments.

Re: Budgets?

Once I became an empty nester I decided that for once I would spend on any chart, fabric, accessories that I thought I needed. Now I'm about to move into an aged care home and can't take my extremely large stash with me. I have advertised it several times at extremely low prices and not been able to...

I learned to sew on that model Singer. My mother had all 3 of us girls learning to use the machine at age 7 and by 10 we were making our own dresses with a little help with inserting sleeves and putting on collars. My sister still has and uses the machine. Brings back a lot of memories. Love your ot...

I prefer it without the hearts. I found my eyes going straight to the hearts and away from the beautiful flowers.

Re: Help! Help!

My sons were christened in a very old 2ply wool shawl which had been crocheted by my grandmother for my mother's christening. It was quite yellowed but I was amazed by the comments of how lovely it was to see such an obviously old shawl being used. I washed it in wool wash but didn't worry about the...

Re: I don't like stitching the same design twice!

I mostly stitch large projects and the only one I stitched twice was Teresa Wentzler's 'The Castle" I can't say I enjoyed doing it a second time but it was a specially requested wedding gift. Back in New Zealand I did sample stitching for a large importer of cross stitching supplies, they were ...
