I use the loop start method and I find as using a shorter length of thread for most starts I make less mistakes. I then finish ff the thread by running it under at least five stitches at the back if available.

I stitch big projects from the middle up and then the middle down or roundabout. Gives me more choice with colours to use from here I find. with smaller projects i stitch from the bottom up from right to left . I organise my blended threads at the time I use them and then any left over I place the needle on my needleminder or in a hole punched with the symbol in some card to use for the next area. this works really well for me. And no wastage of thread!

I do my gridding with quilters pencil which washers out as it is chalk. I have a pale blue, yellow and pink one. i draw my grid in 10 x 10squares running down the holes in a line and this works well on even weave too I find. I used to grid using a cotton basting stitch but this was time consuming I ...

I organise my floss by wrapping it around cardboard bobbins and writing on the bobbins whatDMC/Madeira/Kreinik number it is for example.
