Re: Serinde lives up to her name update 29 May 2024

This definitely beats sudokus, much as I enjoy those - they are not nearly so decorative

In my canvaswork I have to realise that I simply cannot be as detailed and "painterly" as I could be in surface embroidery or even fine cross stitch, and I am finding it really hard!

medal

which I think all mothers should get. I got my two ready-made, and although I would have liked to have my "own", this is one aspect of it that I'm not too sorry about missing out on...

BTW Richard, do I detect a Pyramids reader there?

Re: 2024 Deliveries & Stash Acquisition

Your friend's story made me rather sad - I hope he is enjoying what he has as much as possible now! DH is always happy for me to spend money on my hobby, or books, or he likes to take me out, but I grew up on a very tight budget being raised by a single mother in a council flat and I still find it d...

Re: 2024 Deliveries & Stash Acquisition

If they are just what you needed, then it is worth both the wait and the outlay. As hobbies go, ours is hardly a very extravagant one, so the odd bit of indulgence is quite defensible!

That's a really interesting impression of the photo, I like the way you have sort of distilled it down to its essence.

That's a lovely start, and I do like your generosity in going by your SIL's kindness rather than your niece's ingratitude!

Not surprising your ready for a quiet(ish) weekend - or two or three! Well done you and the team for getting all that out on schedule.

My word you are approaching this thoroughly, and it's really impressive what you have been achieving from the word go - the sky is the limit now that you've got some practice in!

Serinde wrote: Tue May 21, 2024 7:28 am The difference with your sock stash, of course, is that you actually use it. I rearrange my wool stash, and occasionally pet the silk stuff, but actually use it? Heresy!
Oh dear, too too recognisable

Jo, those socks are the business, and I love the variegated wool!

Re: Mabel's RSN Certificate - canvas

No homework done in between classes at all (life, eh?) but I nearly completed the pavement while at my class. It was slow going because it contains 9 different blends of colours, and I miscounted in one place so had to unpick and re-stitch  but I'm happy with the way it interprets the photo! h...

Well, there is a LOT of stitching to do on this piece so not suprising it's taking some time - but it's looking beautiful!

Re: 2024 Stash & Grab Virtual Pub

Jo, I know this is the cross stitch forum but over the past years the members have been really kind to me and others as we've posted projects in other techniques - I think as long as it's done with a needle and thread it's allowed! And of course we have the All Other Crafts section for things not do...

Did you decide on how to secure the Aurora threads? Something laid-and-couched sounds like a good plan. We've just been to an exhibition of soldiers' embroidery and there was a banner with the most exquisite silk laid work, with incredibly long laid strands.

Re: 2024 Stash & Grab Virtual Pub

Not as much as I'd like to :-( - partly for very pleasant reasons like outings and a cousin visiting from the Netherlands, partly work and other commitments, but it means I have done no Certificate homework at all, and FoF is sadly neglected. Also, my eye problems are getting worse, which is worryin...

Not a thing I would lightly do  - in fact, not a thing I'd do at all! Even our neighbour's semi-feral cat one boops at one's own risk, let alone something that size
