Re: HaED vs Artecy vs Mystic Stitch vs Scarlet Quince

The sites serve different purposes (to me, anyway) so it's a bit of an apples and oranges thing. When I'm in the mood for stitching a large piece of very well-known classical fine art, I go to Scarlet Quince. When I'm in the mood for something quirky and strange and lesser-known (without blended thr...

50% off sale you know where...

A labor day 50% off sale at HAED was announced on the boards. It's not showing on the website, though? But maybe they haven't updated it yet. Anyway, sale's a-comin!

ETA: Starts on the 15th!

Re: Stitching Gifts for People???

I don't stitch gifts for people. :shifty: I don't have a lot of stitching time, and what I do have is usually spent on giant BAPs that will take years. I'm saving those for my own walls and for (hopefully) my children to one day inherit.

Now if THEY mistreat them, I'll come back and haunt them.

Re: First BIG project - help please!!

Hi and congrats on your big project! BAPs are my favorites, even though I know they'll take me years. :D 1. I've got a huge Scarlet Quince and three HAEDs in my rotation, and I use either big Q-snaps or a big hoop. I've had a frame but just don't prefer it. So it's really based on your personal pref...

Re: first real project.advice please!

Hmm, I've always been able to find big enough 18 ct aida at my local Michael's craft store. Do you have one? They come in rolls there, so there aren't any folds. Sorry I can't be more help- everywhere else I've order from online folds the fabric.

Tina Fey piece done! (warning: language)

Finished this cross stitch based on a Tina Fey quote from this SNL skit (around the 1:40 mark if you're curious :D ): http://i1054.photobucket.com/albums/s492/deadwhiteguys/stitchery/tinafey_zps72a08fd2.jpeg I got it from this etsy seller and I just think it is so funny. Now, where to hang it so my ...

Re: Questions for HAEDers

1. I own 17, most of them full size, about half of them gifts from my birthday and Mother's Day last year.

2. I've started Ex Libris and Christmas Candle, so 2

3. I haven't finished any of them. I've got them in rotation with one SQ BAP (Starry Night) and one Mystic Stitch (Muchas' Autumn)

Fabric up for trade!

Ok so I have two pieces of 28 count monaco that I'd like to trade for 25 or 22 count (fabric type doesn't matter). Both my pieces are 20 inches by 24 inches. I'd need the 22 count to be at least 14x20 or 25 count at 13x19. I'd also take a big piece of 18 count whatever. There's nothing wrong with th...

Re: Pre-threading Needles

I pre-thread for BAPs that involve blended threads (like those from Scarlet Quince). I just buy a piece of foam from the craft store and a little plastic box with a lid for it to go in. I write the symbols on the foam with a Sharpie and then put the pre-threaded needle into the foam next to the righ...

Re: *Rant* they don't understand!

I agree with rcperryls- it sounds like she's just generally rude. You could probably talk about any hobby, not necessarily cross stitching, and if it wasn't something she was already into she would probably do the same thing. Just know that WE get it, and there are tons of us scattered all over the ...

I think you can also substitute DMC D5200 if your LNS doesn't have the #4 (correct me if I'm wrong, ladies)

Yay, caitief! I'm so glad you liked everything. And I must say, I discovered those gold needles while shopping for your presents and I bought some for myself and LOVED them. Your wish list converted me  ETA: I can't find my camera, but I got some lovely 14 count aida, some black and white perl...

Re: Today I realized...

No, I don't wear glasses. I have great vision, but for some reason the amount of focus I need to really see the 28 count squares gives me a headache. I don't understand it. And looking through magnifiers has always given me eye strain- even with microscopes in science class in school. It's bizarre. ...

Today I realized...

I hate 28 count fabric. I love the results, but I seriously hate the process. I wanted to love it! It's so pretty! But I can't see the squares without a magnifier, and that gives me a headache, so I can only stand to stitch for like 30 minutes at a time. I finally realized today that this isn't fun,...
