Re: Caron Waterlilies conversion...need help.

An exact conversion will be nigh impossible as these two threads are variegated. But you could convert to a DMC color that, to your eye, most nearly matches the predominant color in the called for thread. At the end of the day, I am sure whatever you choose will look fantastic.

Re: Working on Big Projects One Page at a Time

Great tip. I have been making an effort to cross into the next page every few lines, but taping the adjacent pages would make that a whole lot easier.

Re: Been a year of cross stitching....

I wouldn't say bored, but sometimes, I just don't feel like stitching. My WIPs are all very different, so that helps with breaking up the monotony of working on long-term projects. But when my knitting needles call to me, I pick 'em up with a vengeance.

Re: Where to buy cheap supplies?

Kits are nice because they are all inclusive, but they can be pricey. Cross-stitch does not have to be expensive. Joann's, Michael's, Hobby Lobby and even Wal-Mart (some of them) are great places to purchase floss and fabric at very reasonable prices. With coupons and sales, you can really save a bu...

Re: How do you organize your floss?

I've been keeping inventory of my threads with an app called Thread Tracker. Unfortunately it only allows for DMC tracking, so I use an excel spreadsheet for specailty threads, fabrics, charts, etc... I was very tempted by the Cross Stitch Guild app, but the price made me hesitate. Would love to hea...

Re: Just started my first HAED and I'm having issues

I park in a 10x10 method the way you describe, finishing all of one color before moving to the next on my HEAD as well. However, full crosses were much too bulky. I'm doing 2 over 1 half crosses and the coverage is perfect for me. When you tried 1 over 1 full crosses, did the coverage seem sparse ev...

Re: how to price a cross stitch

I agree wholeheartedly with NeedleandFork. If you are charging for your art, you should be paid appropriately. I've done a few (3) pieces by commission and wrestled with this concept at first. I knew I would be putting aside my own projects for the duration and that I would be stitching like a mad w...

Re: Parking Tips/Tricks

I prefer to start from the top left and work right and down, especially when parking on a BAP. I make my first leg with / and then cross \. So working from the top, the parked thread sits in (comes up through) a clean hole. I don't leave needles on parked threads. Too many tangles. That being said, ...

Re: Metallic Threads

I'm working on a pattern that calls for Rainbow Gallery's Petite Silk Lame Braid. I love it. Not quite as much shine as a true metallic, but just enough to catch the eye with a bit of sparkle. And it's very easy to stitch with - no tangles or knots. I haven't had any fraying either, but I am using s...
