What is the best brand for metallic thread?

Its that time of year again starting to think about Christmas stitching. What I would like to know is what brand of metallic thread would you all recommend. I had some Madeira free with a magazine last year and it was just awful, even after using thread heaven from a recommendation on here it still ...

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher

I agree. Some non-stitchers do appreciate the work that goes into them. My mother-in-law always praises my work and was thrilled with the sampler I did for her actually saying she appreciated the work that went into it. I did two pieces for my auntie who is knitter not a cross-stitcher both of which...

Re: Washing Finished Projects

Since my very first, very anxious machine wash, I loved how clean my piece was. I now wash all my finished pieces on a delicate cycle in a lingerie bag with just a small amount of my usual detergent. I have never had colours run and I do believe it brightens the colours and whitens the aida (that's ...

Re: Confessions of a Cross Stitcher

I'm another who doesn't care about the back of my work. (whose going to see it?) If I am finding particular project difficult or am going through a phase of making lots of mistakes I will frequently lose my temper and throw my work across the room complete with hoop and needle. When I finish a piece...

Re: Do you stitch anything for Father's Day?

Just thought I would share. It wasn't for fathers day but I did sew a sampler for my Dad as a present when he came of hospital (he died just a few months later) I am afraid I don't have pic of the finished article or the chart. But as the words rang especially true with me other dad lovers might lik...

Re: how did you start?

Tesco bag for life.

Hi, I have seen around a Tesco bag for life with a Christmassy cross stitch design on it. I was just wondering if anyone had a spare one of these bags and would be prepared to send it to me or could at least photocopy the design and send that to me? I know its a kind of weird request but would be gr...

Re: Craft fair fever

Argh, that was the most amazing thing I have ever done, it was awesome, I had sooo much fun. I did manage to get my lamp for a bargain £60 and they held onto it for the day so I didn't have to carry it around. I got a goody bag with all sorts of papery bits and silicone glue cos I am just getting i...

Metallic thread

I'm having huge trouble with my thread, I am usually really good and find it really easy to thread my needle with normal thread, but I got some free Madeira sparkly thread with my magazine and have been trying to make Christmas labels with it. Firstly it is really hard to thread into my needle, I ha...

Re: Craft fair fever

Thanks for all the info and definitely thanks for the warnings, my bf is coming (despite him not being that into craft, its my birthday present from him) and he has an iPhone so he can always check things for me. I think he is more looking forward to the effect it will have on me rather the the craf...

Craft fair fever

Hi everyone, My boyfriend is taking me to a craft fair at the NEC for my birthday. I have never been to a craft fair but I am really excited. I am hoping that most people are going to give me money for my birthday to spend at this craft fair, my grandparents give me a bit of pocket money whenever I ...

Re: Embroidering onto clothes

Yes waste canvas is the way to do this. I use it all the time for bags and shirts and I did a whole quilt for my daughter using waste and cotton fabric. If you are going to us t-shirts then you will also need to consider a basting fabric as the stitches will pull the light material used in t-shirts...

Embroidering onto clothes

Does anyone do this? I'm considering customising some plain tshirts but really don't know how to go about it. Anyone know? I have some lovely little designs in various CS magazines that would look great on t shirts but I have never tried to stitch onto anything but aida.

Re: Questions for those who wind their thread onto card

Just wind it straight on to the bobbin. Did you get the card type????? There are paper ones and also plastic. I started with the paper but have gradually phased out those and most are now on the plastic bobbins as they hold up better. I found that the winder that came with my original bobbins was m...
