Re: SAL Hardanger Sampler November 2015 ...UPDATE 17th FEB

thank you ladies. Can't find it at 123 Stitch or Nordic Needle or Herrschners. Found #8 at Sew and So but it's nuts to pay shipping for 2 balls of thread. Couldn't find #5. Or vice versa. It was missing one of them. If 3865 is natural white, then I am thinking I can go with a white or with ecru whi...

Re: Help! My aida is unravelling

honestly dont worry to much about it, aida will only fray a certain amount unless the edges are getting handled alot I do nothing to secure the edges of my fabric, I just let it fray. Ive never lost more than 1/4" to fraying. if it really bothers you you can serge it as suggested, or use a zig ...

Re: Stay Safe in the Snow/Blizzards

snowfall here this winter has been pathetic, temperature has been above 0 since mid January. while mild weather is pleasant for the day, lack of snow means a dry summer with low water levels in the rivers and peoples wells. so if anyone has too much snow send it to northern BC and Alberta, we could ...

Re: How to care for overdyed threads?

I've seen folks suggest swishing the floss in water with a little white vinegar to set the color before you use it if you suspect it isn't colorfast. vinegar is ok on cotton threads, but be careful of using it on overdyed silk or wool, as they are dyed in acid dyes and depending on the dyes used an...

Re: Newbie to Cashel Linen--Help?

those thicker spots are called slubs, its one of the charictaristics of linen and if you are stitching over 2 your stitches will be pretty much even, they would only be bigger if you have either a really big slub or 2 slubs crossing. for keeping the fabric from slipping I use a piece of paper towel ...

Re: Trouble with pulling needle through

Hi all, You've raised an interesting point about needle size. I am currently using a John James Quilting needle, size 5/10. I have no idea whether or not this is suitable for what I'm doing. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks. oh dear! a quilting needle is not what you need. switch to a tapestry n...

Re: Trouble with pulling needle through

I personally find 2 over 1 on 25 ct to be a royal pain! to bulky, and as you have noticed it can get hard to pull the needle through the over full holes, not to mention the back can be quite a mess from confetti, messy back is not a problem, unless you cant stitch through it! if you definetly want t...
