Hello everyone. My name is Emma, I'm 19 and although I've been cross stitching since I was small I'm still finding my feet. Although I did small cross stitches my mum used to the backstitching for me but now I'm able to do backstitch I just can't get the hang of French knots. I look forward to talking to you and looking at all of your lovely work :)

Welcome to the forums!

It's nice to know younger people who're into cross stitching, as it seems I find less and less people interested in it who are younger than 30. Looking forward to seeing your work!

Thank you all :) To be honest I was a bit nervous about signing up at first but you've all made it relaxed and welcoming.

Hello and welcome. I love looking at everyone's projects. I thought I knew everything until I joined this forum. There is so much I've learned and I've only belonged about 3 days.

Hi and Welcome from Brisbane Australia. Its great that you enjoy your cross stitching. French knots are easy, just remember to keep the thread firm asa you pull the needle through.

Again thank you all, especially for that tip on French knots. I've just recently uploaded my first "proper" cross stitch in the SAL forum. I say "proper" because I have done a couple of small ones on holidays in Florida (bought from Walmart) when I next visit my Dad (lives 245 miles away) I'll get photos of them for you to see but this I managed to do all by myself so I was proud.

Hello & welcome to the forum.

Squirrel is right - the trick is to keep the thread taut on the needle as you go down with your needle.

Try checking out YouTube - they have lots of video clips

I've been cross stitching for 10 years and French knots were hard for me too. I found that with practice it naturally came. I wish I could explain it, but there was a eureka moment for me and I could do them. The tip one of the earlier posters described is pretty good.
