New to forum

Post by amanda66 »

Hi everyone
Amanda here from the UK. 66 years young :) and I have been stitching for 54 years :D I only have one WIP on the go at a time but I do admire all you lovely ladies and gents who have more. I always use Aida either plain or hand dyed 18 or 20 count and I love to do large projects most of the time. Just completed "French Fox" by Tilton Crafts, 111 days of stitching 462 hours 19 minutes and it used 90 colours. Going to the framers this coming week. Latest WIP I have just started this last week is "Cheese" by Shinysun.
Stitched lots of different themed projects over the years, love Mirabilia, Lavender and Lace, HAED's to name a few.
Here's hoping you will welcome me into this stitching family.

Take care everybody

Hi Catz, Serinde, Daisymay and Nicola

A wave for each of you and thank you for your lovely welcome.
Having a quiet stitching day today whilst hubby is doing other things. Nothing better than stitching with a yankee candle burning and some background music. my idea of stitching heaven.
Thank you once again.

Take care and happy stitching
Amanda

 Hello Amanda and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! So glad that you have joined us and looking forward to seeing progress pictures of your stitching. I also love big projects and have way too many on the go right now. I was a one at a time stitcher for years and then I joined the forum and found out I didn't have to be. Went a little on the wild side but love it now and actually only focus on a few at a time. Also looking forward to getting to know you.

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds as if you aren't frightened of complex projects. It'll be fun seeing your work & seeing more progress.

However, can I ask... How are you so certain about how long the 'French Fox' took? Do you time each stitching session?
(Think I'd frighten myself silly on my bigger projects if I did - if I'm lucky I get up to 100 stitches an hour, and with 110,000 stiches on the slightly larger of my two current projects.. Yikes).

I look forward to learning from such an experienced stitcher.

Regards,

Richard

Hi Richard
Thanks for your welcome. Never been afraid of large and confetti heavy projects, something to get my teeth into.
I keep a notebook by the side of me an enter the time I sit to stitch and the time I finish (obviously taking breaks for coffee etc) then total it up at the end of the session. Some people think I am a bit sad :(
I am not an experienced stitcher Richard just somebody who has been stitching for a very long time, no different to anybody else who stitches and enjoys seeing a plain piece of fabric come to life through all those little crosses.
Take care and happy stitching
Amanda

Don't think it's sad, but it can be a bit frightening.

Think, 462 hours at minimum wage, and that puts a notional 'cost' on a project of £3465 (£7.50p/hr) or USD3350 (US$7.25/hr). Which makes the actual sale price when cross stitch projects come up on E-Bay etc seem an absolute bargain. :thinks:

Regards,

Richard.

Welcome to the forum! I'm looking forward to seeing your projects. It's really neat that you keep track of how long it takes you to complete a piece. I'm only able to track it in months, or in some cases years. Since I watch TV while I stitch, I'd never get an accurate count even if I did write down starting and stopping times

Hi Helene
Thank you for your lovely welcome.
As to timing my projects I don't do anything elaborate at all, just a notebook, pen and clock/watch and enter each time I stop and start. Hope you have a go sometime. Love Joan Elliott designs.
Take care and happy stitching
