I am just now flipping through a book I borrowed from the library.

Elegent Hardanger Embroidery by Yvette Stanton
The one I have has copywrite of 2002 (but I think there is an updated version from 2007/ 8?)

The stitch diagrams at the begining of the book are EXCELLENT! She has great instructions as to where you should start a stitch, and what a proper stitch should look like from the front and back (like diagonal kloster blocks, or a straight line of kloster blocks with spacing) And common mistakes to look out for, such as a diagonal kloster block not sharing the pivot hole. It even shows a stitching path for needleweaving- I've never seen that in a book before.
(I don't like her picot instructions though- or it could be that I am not doing mine properly)

So.. if you are a little hesitant to start, but want a good resource before stitching Mabel's SAL, or the one begining soon from The Stitch Specialists, I would recommend that you try to get this book.

Thank you Maggie. I've looked at a few from the library before and was thinking of trying to review them though I didn't really think they were good. I'm going to see if my library has this one before the SAL.

If your library doesn't have this title.. ask if they can get it for you through an Inter Library Loan program.

Our library systems are on a county system. I live in one county, work in another. My library card is registered with both systems. But sometimes there are titles that neither system has (such as the Better Homes and Garden book I got that layered Hardanger House project from) But they could get it for me from a different system through the ILL program. Took maybe a week or two to get it in. Slick SLICK!!

I went on Amazon to see how much this would be to buy. for the 2002 version. I think it was $130.. used! The 2007 version was around $25-30. So check your library first.

I always check my library first unless I know its a book I will want forever. Its amazing how expensive some used books can be.

Sounds like a great book--I just checked our library site and it's not in their system at all. Ebay has a couple of them listed but at over $25 plus shipping and they are overseas

:( not in ours either. I think I'll see if any of the other county systems has it, but ours is much larger so I doubt it. Maybe it comes as an ebook .

Sound like an excellent book. For those that may want to buy it, I did find it listed at Abe Books at prices ranging from about $18-30 depending on the seller. Some of the sellers are in the US, some in the UK so make sure you look carefully.

Thanks, Serinde. That may be the best option. I've bookmarked the website you can purchase it at. I like the idea of being able to print sections or have it on my iPad. I love "real" books but I figure I'd best get with the modern trend. I think.

Thanks! I just grabbed this via MeLCAT. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to make it to my library.

Looks like a great teaching tool. I hadn't realised she is Australian. I have found it at a very reasonable price on a local site so will be ordering it later today. Thanks for the tip off.

It'll get sent to my daughter's and I'll pick it up when I get over there.

Thanks for the tip off, Maggie!! :D

You're all welcome ladies.
Glad I could help out with stitchy purchases (or borrowing if your library has the title)
I think this book has a good way of showing and explaining things.
The preview link Wandatoo posted shows a few pages in the begining of the book so you can see if you can follow the way she explains stitches.
I am going to turn TSS Confetti of Hardanger project into a pillow- using
the instructions from this book.
