Alternative mount?

Post by HalbertMusik »

Hello all-

I started a new project but did not have a free frame to hold the project. Then I thought about the possibility of sandwiching the aida between 2 pieces of cardboard with staples. The idea was to keep this as simple as possible.

It seems to be working: the dimensional stability holds, though it is somewhat dependent on the relative humidity. The only drawback is that the fabric is no longer adjustable, remaining more or less as taught as when it was stapled. Somehow I thought that having a 3rd arm when I was putting it together would have been helpful...

Comments???

It's a bit like the "frame" DH made out of thin ply for my silk gauze, only i used masking tape to attach the gauze, so i could asjust it a bit while working.

Hello-

Well, here is a picture of the finished work on the cardboard frame:

It as an interesting project with this frame  - the frame held the aida, but it was obviously not stretchable and/or adjustable and it was a bit sensitive to the relative humidity. I would still recommend this approach for small projects but for larger... :thinks: I am not sure that the stiffness of the cardboard would be sufficient and the thickness would have to be increased.

By the way, the basic pattern is off of cyberstitchers.com and designed by Jerry Van Horn :applesauce: (though I did make a few changes)

The main thing is that it worked and who know who else will find this tip handy one day. I do like that picture btw.
