25 count linen

Post by welsh wendy »

Hi :)

Going through my materials I found two big pieces of 25 count Dublin could someone please tell me whether you work over two or one threads and is it the equallent of 12count aida.

And what would be the best designs to work on it. Thanks :)

Hi Wendy. I've never worked with linen but the christmas welcome cross stitch I did should have been done on linen however I chickened out as it was a much higher count( small stitches).
I have a tree skirt which is done in 11 count Aida and I have to use three strands of floss so I take it would be the same for your fabric. Maybe it would be good for cushions or some other decorative item for your home.

I haven't stitched on linen....yet! But, I assume you can either stitch over 2 or over 1, it's up to you.

Hi Wendy
I prefer to work on linen or evenweave and when sewing on either you work over two thread. And yes you were right about the aida count. General rule of thumb is that when working over two threads you half the count, eg if the linen is 32 count it is equivalent to 16 count aid.
