How to Erase Grid Lines?

Post by Slimmchants »

What have I gotten myself into?

I am presently working in China for a few months, living in a hotel, and have lots of spare time on my hands. I was in a market and saw all these cross stitch kits with cool Chinese designs. I picked one up to kill some time with at the hotel.

When I opened it up, it was MUCH larger (520w X 207h) and more intricate than I had imagined! No worries, I have lots of time.

However, there is a good deal of white space, which has a light blue grid line stamped on it. Is there some way to remove this grid once I've finished?

Thanks!

 Hello and welcome to the forum. Hope you will stay with us and show us what you are doing.
How neat to buy a Chinese kit in China. Sounds like it will keep you busy. The grid lines should wash out after you have completed the piece. Probably much of the stitching will cover the lines, but I would guess that it has been gridded with a washable ink. I know that there is fabric that can be purchased already gridded and that is how they are designed. I look forward to getting to know you and seeing this piece progress.

OK, thanks very much. That's the answer I was hoping for!

I just took some pictures. Is there a way to attach them to my post?

Yes, that's the fabric. This is my first cross stitch. I'm guessing the fabric is not usually stamped??

No the fabric is usually not stamped. The fabric is just plain and you have a chart that is just like the print on your fabric and the stitcher then decides where they would like to start....middle, top right ,bottom left, ect and then they choose a color and count where to start and from there you add colors by counting where they should be place. You can see a few examples in the SAL Section.

Ahhh....ok, well I guess that makes it easier then, since I don't have to count.

There is also a full size pattern included, with symbols for the different colors.

I sure have learned a lot about cross stitching in the last few hours! The fabric is 11 count. I did a few stitches with 2 threads, but then switched to 4 threads. I think I like 4 threads better.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Welcome to the forums. IF I'm not mistaken, that looks like stamped cross stitching. I have done a few over the 30 yrs, this July, of stitching, but I haven't done designs like that with so much color stamped on the fabric. I am also looking forward to seeing your progress on this project. It is a beautiful design.

HAPPY STITCHING IN STITCHING LAND. :applesauce: :D :applesauce: :D

Well, I have a start on it. I will post more pictures as I go. Should I just post them on this thread, or is there a more appropriate forum to post them?

Thanks again!

You can start a new thread for your progress updates in the Stitch-a-long Forum which is where most of us post our project updates. Some of us use a different thread for each large project (which yours looks like) and some put all their projects in one thread. Or lump smaller projects together in one thread (I do that, for eg.). I suggest that you bookmark your thread so that you have an easier time finding it when you want to do an update. That came up in another thread recently. I find that very useful. You can find the threads you have bookmarked in your profile. But there isn't a hard and fast rule and we don't give demerits for much of anything. A lot of members will go to that forum and look at updates there first, especially if they don't have a lot of time. That way they don't miss things. I prefer to view new posts, but I'm retired and have more time to spend here than a lot of others. Hope I haven't confused you.
