Please could you help me as I have to do reverse cross stitches & also reverse half cross stitches. My stitches book is an older one so these are not in there & several sites on Internet talk about reverse of the cross stitch fabric so no joy there. Would be grateful for your help, thank you.

I hope someone can help. I've never heard of those stitches, so I'm curious to see what they are.

I'd never heard of that either. I found this link - maybe it helps?

Thank you both for replies & Disneystitcher you have hit the jackpot, that link is what I wanted but could not find. Brilliant, thank you. :applesauce:

The half cross stitch I will do from bottom right to top left. as shown in blue on the info page, going in the same direction as the top thread of the full reverse cross stitch. That should work out as usually half stitches go from bottom left to top right. It's easy to work it out from the diagram on the link.

I had not heard of that stitch either and am looking forward to seeing a picture of your piece when you have done that section of your stitching. I wonder why it is called a Reverse stitch?

I have to hold my and up & say sorry I messed up!!  And I do apologise.

I had photocopied chart which I'd cut into smaller pieces so I could enlarge them. I started to sort out the thread holders when I was numbering the threads I noticed these new stitches on the top of the sections. I searched high & low yesterday for the stitches description. Had half but not the piece with the drawings on it. Looked after evening meal as I'd thrown away scraps edges of chart sheets & I accidentally discarded the piece of leaflet with drawings of stitches on the back. I had looked through rubbish lounge bins twice ot check but then I went through our newspaper recycling sack & found it right at the bottom.

Now I can tell you that reverse cross stitch goes from bottom right to top left & from bottom left to top right, the opposite (reverse) way most people stitch. I think most people stitch with top thread going from right to left.

Reverse half cross stitch is from bottom right to top left the opposite way to normal half stitch.

Anyway, I am doing a Dimensions Gold Petite of a pretty kitten & on looking at the symbols for threads most of this is done in reverse stitches. I don't know if it is to make the kittens fur look more lifelike or not. A challenge but I will do it. no matter how long it takes. I know some of you will think it is a HUGE challenge for someone who threw away of the design with drawings of stitches on the reverse by mistake  That will teach me not to do 2 things at once. Thought I could take photocopies of chart while evening meal was cooking. Obviously I can't do that & sort out all kit contents as well!

I'll take picture of drawings of stiches so members can see in case they need to do these stitches in future but it may not be until tomorrow morning.

That's very interesting Izzi and thanks for the diagram! Yes I normally stitch from top right to bottom left and then bottom right to top left. Have never heard of this reverse stitching either and I'm intrigued :thinks: Do you have to stitch it this way on your project or can you just stitch it the 'normal' way? xxx

I'm going to have to see that as you go. I think if that's all they want, you could sew it upside down (?maybe?) and get the same effect without making your poor brain re-adjust. Let us know how you make out.

Thank you both. I think I need to do the stitches as they are shown Nicola as Dimensions more difficult designs are very detailed & once the project is completed you realise just why you did stitches a certain way on different parts of the project. Have combined threads on this, which I do not mind doing, & also some stitches are with 3 strands of thread. Done those before as well & they do make a difference in texture/definition.

Never thought of that DisneyStitcher.

Am going to try & put up project picture in Stitch-a-long in a moment & hope it goes without any hitches but if PhotoBucket take too long will try again tomorrow .

Will put up picture on the stitch-a-long topic once I have done some stitches as I start with reverse cross stitch on kitten's face. Am still getting kit sorted so will probably start stitching in a few days time.
