I'm so very very very sorry. You had no choice but the right choice and I'm glad you were there with her, it really helps them I think. It wouldn't have been fair or right to carry on treating her when her time had clearly come and you were good and brave.

Poor Laverne and you, at least you can comfort each other, but it's a very sad time. But she's not gone, you have all your happy memories and the smiles you gave each other and us when you related the stories and shared the pictures of their life with us. Thank you for doing that.

run free Shirley, enjoy your temptations!

If you want or need to talk, you know where I am.

Oh Dear oh Dear. I am sure that Shirley is enjoying herself at Rainbow Bridge but my heart aches for you and Miss Laverne at this oh so difficult time. Tuppy is here with me at present and I told him and he gave a quiet "meow" and put out a paw but didn't touch the keybroad so I guess he is saying, "I am sorry."

So love and hugs to you and a paw out(hooks in) to Laverne from Tuppy and me.

Oh, Carole. I'm so sorry to hear this news. I know how special your kitties are to you- you did everything you could for her and gave her the best life any kitty could ask for.

Oh no.
That is so sad.

Poor Shirley. I bet Laverne will miss her - be sure to love & cuddle Laverne, though in all honesty, I can't imagine you being able to do anything else.
We found, when Gryff died, that our other two cats seemed to understand what was going on a bit more when they were allowed to sniff Gryff just before we buried him. Unlike when previous cats died and we kept the remaining ones away, they didn't seem to be expecting him to come round the corner at any time. Also they grieved too, but were over it a bit faster than when their friend just disappeared never to return home.

They never leave you, though.
I still think of my old Albert every day, and he died in 2004.

Thinking of you,

Richard.

Oh Carole, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I'm in tears just thinking about how you must be feeling. You know you did the right thing for Shirley, but that doesn't make it easy to bear.

So sorry to hear this, Carole. It's never an easy decision to make but it sounds like the kindest thing you could have done for Shirley.

All my best wishes.

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I cannot begin to express how much comfort I have had from all of you on this forum. Shirley was a special cat and as a proper feline she knew it. As much as Laverne and I miss her, we know that she is not hurting any more and when she crossed that Rainbow Bridge she was met by the brothers she never knew : Sigmund who lived to 13
Image
Merry (Meriadoc Brandybuck) who lived to 18 and Pippen (Peregrin Took) who lived to 16.

Merry is the black tabby and Pippen is the orange one.
And being fed all the Temptations she has missed in the last 4 years being on a sort of restricted diet, by her Dad.

Laverne is sitting on my lap as we type this and she wants me to express her thanks to all the furbaby forum members who have sent meows and purrs to her also. This has helped more than you can ever know.

What a wonderful group of friends Shirley will have now met and can share with them what life is like now living with you and Laverne.

I am sure that you and Miss Laverne are taking great care of each other as well as comfort. Hang in there both of you, it does get easier. :rainbow:

Thank you for update & hope the pain soon eases for you & Laverne. You never forget any of your pets & they leave footprints on your heart, but occasionally you have special ones. These are always the hardest to get over/become accustomed to not having them there, whatever you call it. But we have to be thankful they gave us their love & many happy memories & Shirley had a very good home with lots of love & affection - your family gave her the best life she could have had.

Take care. Hugs to you & Laverne

I've been away from the forum for a while and one of the first things I read was this. I'm so very, very sorry for your loss, Carole. It's brought tears to my eyes. :(
I considered Shirley a member of the forum as she was nearly always in your progress pics 'helping' you with your stitching along with her sister, Laverne. Always a pleasure to see those photos. She will be missed.

Now she is young and healthy again running around on all those meadows and hills at the Rainbow Bridge.

Love and hugs to you and Laverne.

I'm so sorry to hear this :(

At least you and Laverne have each other, and you know Shirley is at peace. As James Herriot says, the one disservice our beloved pets do us, is to not live as long as us.

Thoughts and virtual hugs to you both xx

Oh Carole I'm so sorry for you and Laverne - yes it was the best thing you could do for Shirley, but that doesn't alter the grieving. I hope you and Laverne can comfort each other with lots of cuddles and stories of Shirley

I wish I could answer each and every one of you who have posted such lovely thoughts and comments. JA Fan, it was so good to hear from you. I wish your return to the forum had been for better news, and I hope that we will hear from you again.

Tiff, I'm sure that Otto and Shirley are in the process of rounding up all the Cross Stitch Forum furbabies who are at the Rainbow Bridge for a fun time together. I have a sneaking suspicion that all those missing skeins of thread have probably found their way there also and can now be batted around as much as those four footed stitchers want.

Mabel, I saw the F of F email about 2016 SAL and that most certainly cheered me up. I will be one of the first to sign up.

Thanks again, all of you for your kind and caring words. I don't think there is a better forum anywhere.
