I am not a huge sports fan but when I realized the Olympic flame was going throug our village on its first day I felt I had to go along. So glad I did coz felt really patriotic and that I ahd been a tiny part of history.

How wonderful! That is a 'once in a lifetime' moment for sure!

The torch will be coming through Rugby too....on a Monday while I'm at work  But my hubby will be off that day and the little ones school sent letters home on Friday stating that as long as you let them know that you will be taking your child to see the torch they would ok the absence for that morning....I think that is really good of them...I wish where I worked felt the same!

We are planning on seeing it here on 1st June. I even took a very deep breath and booked tickets for the evening do so my daughter could experience it. At least if I freak out they haven't cost me anything

Back in 1984, the Olympics were in Los Angeles. I lived in San Diego at the time and worked at a bank. The torch runner ran right by my bank!!!

I had forgotten that until I saw your post. Thanks for the memories ...

Very cool!! I still remember when it came through my town in '88 for the Calgary, Alberta Olympics. That's so neat that you got to see it!

Looking forward to these Olympics this time. Probably 'cause it's "over 'ome"
Great pick by the way. You can see the joy in his face.

Great photo and glad you got to see it so closely.

I remember seeing it here in Horsham about 6 years ago - maybe it was for the Commonwealth Games which were here in Auz I think. Where DS lived was right on the main road into the town so we had just to walk out the front gate. Great memories.

I saw the runner carrying a torch in Santa Fe for the Salt Lake City Olympics! It is nice to see someone running with a torch to feel a part of the opening of the Olympic games.

Great photo! It'll be passing practically down the bottom of our street, so we'll be watching as well -- the advantages of working from home!
