Oh, how nice, Mabel! Well done! Do you do anything with the edges in a keyring or do you just simply cut it?

Agi, it depends on how neat and tidy I'm feeling :-). As I could tell this one would have to be cut perilously close to the stitching I ironed on some Vilene; also disguises the back! I have found, though, that aida with 2 strands is quite difficult to get in, it's just a little bit too thick! But this is a design with such bold colours I couldn't possibly do it in one strand.

Finished my "thank you for looking after Alfie" cat -- isn't he a cheeky little chap?

Have also been going through loads of floral designs for the wool -- I know I said i had the perfect design, and it is a very nice one indeed, but I've done it before and I'd rather like to try a different one. I found a lovely one except that I didn't like the top half and it didn't have forget-me-nots in it, so I redrew it without the top bit and added some blue. May try those first few stitches this weekend!

I admit it. I couldn't resist.

Haven't done the rose-and-forget-me-nots yet, but I was rummaging through my stash and suddenly thought wouldn't it be a good idea to combine Berlin woolwork, which was a great hit with the Victorians, with another Victorian craft, stitching paper; so I nicked a rosebud off a larger design and had a try.

I found that crewel wool generally gives a nice coverage on 14ct stitching paper (although the thickness is a little variable, as you can see), and a lovely matt finish and woolly feel (not surprisingly :-)). Also that it is surprisingly quick to stitch with; that a size 24 needle works fine, but threading it is a bit of a chore; that you need to make sure the paper is cut to a smooth edge or you'll snag; and that wool is springy and so every few stitches you need to dangle and unwind (the thread, that is, not the stitcher...).

And here's the result:
