I'm getting there. Problem is, my mom's birthday is Friday next week. I still have to finish backstitching (I've only done the 2 flowers so far), but then I have to sew on the 75 tiny yellow beads for the stamens and put in hoop & finish off the hoop with a piece of white felt blanket stitched on the back. I've watched a handful of tutorials on that part, but have never done it. Never stitched with beads either. So.... that's a lot in a week while working full time! But it's turning out prettier than I thought it would be! I think she'll like it. Still really hard to see in photo but the fabric is a very, very light blue with white blended in so it looks like the bird is sitting in the clouds.

That's lovely, she will love it. I was afraid of beads but tried them and they were so ease, just make sure you have a tiny beading needle, I use a very very small holed regular sewing needle and have no problems threading it with two strands of floss.

I agree. That is something that I have been known to do. My family and friends know they will get their gifts early, late and on the rare occasion on time

Michelle, that is looking really really beautiful and I am sure your mother will love it. Do give her a big hug and tell her the present is on its way as you are learning new stitches for it. :) I am sure she will understand.

Such a lovely picture! 75 is a surprising high number of beads for the design. It will look amazing. :D

I'm calling the bird done. I stitched in the stamens on the right side group of flowers and put on 3 or 4 beads but even though the beads I got were super tiny (I looked in a few stores, they were the smallest I could find and they are indeed really, really small but they're not stitched into their own square, they're placed randomly on top of the pattern at the ends of the stamens), they looked huge and the whole thing looked wrong. So I took all of that out. I am not interested in doing 75 french knots so I put it in a hoop and am calling it done. I think it turned out pretty - it's hard to see in pictures, but the fabric is so beautiful. It's a pale, pale blue with white mixed in, so it looks like the bird is in the sky. She will love it, I'm sure! Her birthday is today -- ON TIME! :whoop: (even if only because I'm not doing beads!)

There is no beading - that's why it looks ok! The itty bitty beads I tried stitching on, I removed. They looked too big. And like they didn't really belong, so I left it without. Good enough!

Thanks, all. I am seeing her tomorrow - hopefully she'll love it!

Now on to another mason jar lid that my boss wanted, and then I can work on the HAED ornament FINALLY!
