Do any of you hope to learn something new in 2018?

Post by kingfisher68(2) »

After seeing the beautiful ripple blanket on here it gave me the impetus to really try & learn to crochet in 2018. Wondered if anyone else was thinking of spreading their wings to new horizons & say 'Yes I did it' :D

Great question! I was given a small needle felt Blue Tit for my Christmas so I may try doing that if I fancy a change from cross stitching. Me and my Mum have always liked them when we've seen them in magazines and on TV and such like

I would also love to learn how to do biscornu. There are so many lovely patterns for them but a bit scared of where to start!

The blue tit kit should turn out very pretty Nicola, they are such agile birds.

Bscornu is definitley intersting. Often look at their pretty patterns. Maybe another thing to add.

Looking forward to seeing the first steps into crochet and needle felting!

Not so much learning something new, but I would like to improve my goldwork, and also my finishing skills. So actually there is something new I want to learn, using the sewing machine properly!

I'm not very adventurous in learning new craft ideas, as I already know how to knit and crochet in addition to cross stitching. I do intend to learn new finishing techniques and finally get a few of my smaller projects truly finished!!! The felting sounds fun though!!

Yep,
I hope to learn how to build a CNC lathe.
Then I hope to learn how to use it.

Some hope...

For me it is not so much learn new things but relearn one or two I haven't done for a number of years. Things like bobbin lace making and or quilting. We will see what happens. As I discovered last year plans often go awry.

For me it's definitely non-counted types of embroidery, especially needlepainting or at least long-and-short, plus really cracking on with the tapestry weaving. (DH -- or should that be Santa? -- gave me a lovely regular-sized Hokett loom for Christmas.)

Oh, Serinde, did I mention that I did a one week intensive tapestry-weaving course last summer? Haven't done it since then, but loved it. And it is on my to do list.

I am enrolled in an art quilt group since September, so I am hoping to develop my artistic side there - although I am not entirely happy with the group leader. I can still learn a lot from her, at least I hope so.
I am also planning to try wood carving, more specifically to carve some wooden stamps for fabric printing. But that is difficult and complicated, would probably take ages to get really good results. Still want to give it a try.

I hope to get back to some of the things I did very little of in 2017, most specifically Hardanger projects of which I have several but done nothing with. I'd love to try some weaving also. And Blackwork.

I was actually mentioning this morning I may need to teach myself a new craft.

I mentioned elsewhere on the board that I plan to make a ring bearer pillow this year. I may do some kind of beading instead of crossstitch. Or a combination.

The woman my son is marrying is First Nation so I want to include feathers and beading.

I have never done beading other than a few beads in a cross stitch picture.
