"Frog" question

Post by poppy »

I spent yesterday evening with the :anotherfrog:

I started a while ago on a design on 22 Hardanger but did not like how it looked. So, I left it. Yesterday, I decided to frog all the stitches, so I could have the fabric back for something else.
One of the floss used was a very pink DMC and it left a pinky shadow on the fabric. I tried to use sticky tape to remove any fiber.
Have you got any suggestions please?
Hélène

This may sound silly as I've only use Aida but it it is what came to mind. What if you reverse the fabric when you do the next design on it, would that help discolouration disappear under the new lot of stitches.

Only other thing I can think of is to wash fabric with gentle washing up liquid, rinse well several times & dry flat.

If my ideas are not right I am sure someone hear will have an answer. There's a lot of knowledgeable people on here :D

Thank you, Daisy. I will try to wash it first and see if it helps. :D

Helen, forgot to say wash only in tepid water, rub area gently with fingers.

I have, when it is only a small section where a residue was left, just used a damp piece of kitchen roll to wipe/dab the area several times. Most times it fades, occasionally I do that 2 or 3 times letting it dry in between. And being dampened it takes a shorter while to dry. But sounds like you have a larger area to sort out so washing would be best I think. Good luck.

Maybe someone else will have a definite solution but this is all I can think of. Fingers crossed it works for you.

Thank you.
It is not a big area. I will have a go at washing it tomorrow.

Sounds reasonable to me. You can wash 22ct fabric (cotton or linen) with no problems generally. You can also use the commercial products to lift colour stains, if you are really bothered. (Working on the "back" of the fabric probably wouldn't have occurred to me -- good one!)

Thanks Serinde. I have turned fabric over & re-used it when at start of something & used again on reverse - when new stitches are worked you cannot see discolouration. Other times I have used damp k. roll when I've decided to use a different shade further on in the project. I too found sticky tape did not get all colour off.

I always keep wet wipes handy for odd bits of fluff etc. but found damp kitchen roll best for discoloured sections when I have not wanted to wash the whole thing - would have done that if necessary though.

Thank you for all your help. I did rescue my material with no traces of pink! :whoop:
I rubbed a bit of soap on the area and then soaked it. It is now all ironed and white.
I still will stitch on the reverse side. What a great tip, Daisy!
Thanks again :D

So glad it worked Helene - also glad to be of help. It had worked on Aida so I thought it should work for your fabric. When i joined I thought it would be a long time before I could offer advice as there are many knowledgeable people on here. Nice to help someone else as I've learned quite a few things from Tips & Tricks. (I nearly put Tips & Wrinkles then I realised none of us are wrinkled, we're forever young. This hobby has that affect on everyone, men included, so no wrinklies anywhere on here  )

Enjoy stitching again Helene
