I just finished this little mouse. It will be a card for our eldest daughter, who loves pancakes. How do you like your pancakes? I like them with sugar and lemon. :D

 that picture. :applesauce:

My grandchildren love pancakes too....Charlotte makes them every weekend for the family (she's 13)

I like mine with Maple Syrup, but I was brought up on sugar and lemon adornment! In the summer in our market there's always someone making Crêpes and they are Just So Good!!

:applesauce: :applesauce: Love the picture!

Pancakes (especially with blueberries!!!) covered with melting butter and maple syrup. I've not heard of sugar and lemon, but sounds interesting so may have to try that.

And it isn't even Shrove Tuesday yet :-) - your little mouse obviously believes in getting ready early!

Let me explain, Mabel :D

In France on the 2nd of February, we make pancakes to celebrate "la Chandeleur". This is why:

"The date actually marks when Jesus was presented at the temple in Jerusalem.

Before becoming a religious holiday, Chandeleur stemmed from several pagan traditions celebrating the fertility of the earth and the beginning of the end of winter.

It's said that in the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I started the Festival des Chandelles on this date, a candlelit procession through the streets of Rome that culminated in placing the blessed candles in the churches. Gelasius linked this custom to crêpes by handing out galettes (a type of salty crêpe) to poor pilgrims who arrived in Rome that day."

I love galettes!

Would that celebration be what the English call Candlemass? I think they have their candles blessed here.
