Dancing With The Cat (HAED) - WIP
I have become friends with the lady who owns the local Needleworks shop and I gave her a $50 gift certificate that I won for Bingo. In return for that, she gave me a free HAED chart It is called Dancing With The Cat, artwork by Sandra Kuck (Chart No: HAESAK 106).
(Chart from http://heavenandearthdesigns.com/)
I've got the fabric (25ct something-or-other Linen) which the shop owner was nice enough to surge for me around the sides... Apparently surge is the fancy word for it, which I just learned! And I have 6 new needles solely for this project.
Instead of doing it all crazy stupid like I did with my other WIP, I'm going to do it page by page like recommended because my Midnight Grave one is driving me nuts now Going to try and rotate which one I'm working on, not sure if I'm going to do page rotation and bi-weekly. Still have to buy all the threads and possibly a second Q-Snap.
Question: Which do you guys prefer for HAEDs? Tent stitch or cross stitch?
09/20/2010
School has started so I haven't been able to work on much. I made a copy of the first page of the chart, cut it into 6 parts and so far has finished 1/6 of the first page and a bit. Also have the image gridded so I can see what each page should look like.

Lovely design..as for tent or crosses, it's totally a personal preference. For some reason, not doing the whole cross just seems wrong to me. Not sure why, probably my OCD tendencies. I would suggest doing a little test on a piece of the fabric with tent and crosses with different number of threads and see which you like best.

Agreed! It's called cross stitching, not half cross stitching I think I'm going to do full crosses, but if anyone does tent stitches, lemme know about your experience!kerbear879 wrote:Lovely design..as for tent or crosses, it's totally a personal preference. Although my HAED project has been on indefinite hold for some time , I am using the tent style stitching on it and love the coverage--working it up on 25 count aida using two threads

Gorgeous design and I just LOVE HAED!!!
Same for me I'm afraid. Have done a couple of designs in tent stitch and from a distance, you can't really tell the difference, but I don't get the complete satisfaction of the 'neat' stitches and complete coverage you get from full stitches

i felt the same about the tent vs cross stitch but when i started my HAED. i did the first 200 in crosses but found it too bulky and couldnt tell wether i crossed or not, so I started in tent. so now i do them in tent, as i have a sorta OCD and wil only stitch in even number strands as i start with the loop start
gorgeous HAED though

What a cute design I can't wait to see your progress on this
Re: Dancing With The Cat (HAED) - WIP
That is really an adorable pattern. I know many use the tent stitch but I just feel like I am cheating and not really cross stitching if i use them for the full picture. I do like half stitches for the background of pictures though. Just a personal preferance.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror

Does anyone have any comparison photos of the two stitches? Don't know what I want to do now!

Sorry I can't help with your stitch query (I only ever do full crosses .... and can't see well enough to work on 25ct!!) I had to say how much I LOVE the design!! Being rather cat mad (understatement of the decade!!) I just gasped with delight when I saw that wee kitten!!
Looking forward to your updates!!

If I start anothe HAED anytime soon I plan on using tent stitch.. just to see how I like it...A lot of HAED stitches on here use the tent stitch and I can't even really tell the difference when they show progress pics

Re: Dancing With The Cat (HAED) - WIP
I think I'll test on the fabric before I start... xstitch with 1 thread, 2 thread, and then tent with 2 threads. I'll probably still be confused

Re: Dancing With The Cat (HAED) - WIP
I had planned on testing an area of my fabric to see if I want to use one or two strands. I will be stitching mine on white 25ct and there is a lot of black so I want to make sure I like the coverage. I recommend the testing so you are happy with the outcome of your work. good luck this is a cute picture

This is a lovely design, the kitten is so cute and the little girl is adorable. I only use full cross stitch on my own HAEDS, but is down to personal choice in the end
