bookknurd's Misc. Stitches- Superhero Alphabet FINISH!!!!!

Post by bookknurd »

I thought I would start a thread for my smaller projects/random things I work on in between my big projects.

Since catching the stitchy bug, one of the things I have wanted to try is making my own patterns. I have a super creative SIL who was helping me come up with pattern ideas and this is the first one that I made and turned into a finished product!

I have a bumper sticker that says this, which is where she got the inspiration. I made the pillow for her since it was her idea. :)

I hope to have some other charts made up soon, time allowing. Once I have a few, I'd like to sell them online to help support this stitching habit of mine. :)

On a side note, I was greatly surprised by the number of people who did not "get" the saying. Am I wrong in thinking that most people at least recognize the name Oscar Wilde, even if they've never read anything by him? He is one of the most highly quoted people in recent(ish) history, after all. When people saw me working on this on my lunch break or wherever, they almost always asked "So who's Oscar?"

Edit: Also, I'd like to give credit to my grandmother for helping me sew the pillow parts. I'll have a blog post about the whole process soon, after I've given the pillow to my SIL.

I 'got' the expression immediately, in fact it was a big picture and I could only see "Wilde About" until I scrolled down and I wondered if the last word would be "Oscar". I think it makes a great cushion and is nicely finished, well done.

Looking forward to seeing what you have in store next :)

I will try to figure out thumbnails next time I post. I've been meaning to start using them, but I keep forgetting. Sorry for the big pictures!

I'm glad someone else gets it! I don't mind explaining it to people, but I was getting a little tired of the strange looks (although, at this point in my life, you'd think I'd be used to them by now :D ).

Glad to know we have a forum full of well-educated members! :D

I had an inkling that y'all would get it.

Not that anyone should feel bad if they don't get it! Lord knows there's plenty of things I don't get. :P

:applesauce: This is a great design and I got it too when I saw it, but I imagine there are many people who don't know Oscar Wilde. That is a shame, but maybe your pillow will lead them to him.

I got it right away but I am going to show it to my 23 years old son and see how well rounded his education has been. He has been exposed to quite a bit more than some as he is a product of older parents but I will be surprised if he indeed knows Mr. Wilde. I promise to fill him in!
Great design!

I gave it to my SIL this weekend and she loved it! Also, I taught her how to cross stitch, using a small pattern I made up myself (see below). She did a great job! I think she likes it and may even be starting her own project soon. :)

That's a great cushion :applesauce:

And well done on gaining a cross stitch convert  The pattern you designed is reminding me of Poirot, but then I'm currently reading an Agatha Christie so I have mustaches on the mind...
