Disney Afghan (4 square update, 4/19)

Post by firekissed »

So, thanks to much help from Paul, I have finally collected most of the patterns that exist to get started on this project. Basically, it is an afghan of all of the classic Disney animated movies (minus the live action and computer animated ones that also fall under that umbrella).

I haven't updated my Kinkade Beauty & the Beast, because I put it aside to start this project. Anyway, I got going on the first pattern (Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs) and had stitched 5 of 8 faces when I realized that I hated the skin color. I'm working from an old pattern and the DMC skin color must have changed slightly. Anyway, I am slowly ripping all of that out and starting over, so I don't have anything I would like to show you yet.

But, I do have a picture of what it should look like when it's finished!
Image
This will actually take up 2 squares of the afghan (I'm using Anne Cloth, because I needed a million squares). Perhaps I'll share the layout for the whole afghan at some point, if I remember to take a picture of the graph paper that it's laid out on.

What a wonderful project this will be. I love doing afghans because you don't have to decide which of a group of great charts you want to stitch. You get to stitch them all.
I use graph paper also to chart out what will go where, but have learned to do it in pencil because I'm always finding a new design to add to the piece.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I couldn't stand just ripping stitches out, so I've also begun again (although I'm not done :anotherfrog: yet :( ). I will try to post a picture tonight, so you all can see the difference between the old, spray tan skin color & the better new one.

Well, I finally have some updates for you. First is a picture from after my restart, but before I had finished :anotherfrog: the old skin color. The flash doesn't show it super well, but I think you can see how 'off' the original was (it's the darker color on Snow's chest/face).

I like the new skin color so much better! It's just more natural; besides, Snow White is supposed to be pale!

Here's the additional progress I have made:

I started the backstitching because her face looked ridiculous without it. Now that classes are over, I hope to be able to update more frequently again. It's probably about time to switch projects, but I'm not sure if I'm going to return to the Kinkade Beauty & the Beast or start a pair of cardinals for my Aunt & Uncle for Christmas...

:applesauce: great start. Snow White is looking really pretty and the dwarves are
Looking dwarfish  . I can see why you wanted to do the back stitch because it really does make a big difference . Looking forward to your next update.
