The Gaurdian- Teresa Wentzler

Post by wtnlvr »

I thought I would create a thread for this project which is nearing completion. I started this during a blizzard in 2003. Took a few years off and restarted late last year. The last picture represents 250 hours of stitching- yes I have been logging the hours on this one-LOL The kit came with 28 count evenweave but I prefer Aida so this is stitched on 14 count Aida. I decided at the start not to do the celtic border knowing it would add years to the project- although it is stunning with it completed. Tons of confetti, almost every stitch is blended with 2 different colors, and there are constant color changes per 10x10 square. Each square takes an hour but some take 1.5- 2 hours to complete. Not a project for the light of heart  I look forward to posting pics of the completed project within the next couple of months.Image

TW's designs can be so complicated with fractional stitches and blended threads and lots of confetti, but are so worth it. Your piece is a wonderful example of why. :applesauce: :applesauce: Great job of stitching. I can't wait to see your updates!

Looks great! I've stitched the same design (see gallery) and debated doing the border or not too. I had time on my hands so I stitched it but it did take a long time! Can't wait to see your finish!

This is really nice. I have TW that I have finished the stitching on, after many years, but I still need to make it into a bell pull. and all the things about the colors and blends, I TOTALLY agree. It seems to me there were around 100 colors in the pattern.

TY for all the kind words of encouragement. I finished my last stich tonight at 7pm EST  Now on to the backstitching :( Then off to the frame shop to pick out a frame and mat. Will post when it's finished.

Well, I haven't been on much because I've been busy finishing this draconian beast! Towards the end I also found out I have to put my house on the market and find a new one in short order. So, what can I say, when life throws you lemons, make lemonade 8)

Here she is prior to framing.

and after
Image

I love how it came out. It took forever to pick out a frame but the lady at the custom frame shop was really patient and had great ideas. This will be hung in my "dragon" room in my new house, complete with tapestries, swords and lots of dragon/wizard cross stitching pieces I have done. I shudder at the framing costs but feel it was worth it. Total project involved over 300 hours of stitching time over a 10 year period.

Enjoy, not a project for the faint of heart!!
