Yay     Floral Lace is completely and finally finished :whoop:

Here all 18 of them together:

Perhaps I should make them into a book, or a calender or something :thinks: :thinks:

Oh why did I open this post - I am supposed to be finishing the owl's eyes today but now I want to play with my hardanger charts and threads. :tantrum:

 just had a thought, I need to do one of those fabulous Floral Lace designs to see if I can get it to fit a coaster so I can do a set for sister's 70th next year. Mmmmm. goes away to think about it.

Mabel, they are fabulous and look so awesome all together like that. My thought would be a wall hanging of them all or a quilt and the calender idea is a good one too. :D :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave:

Wall hanging might be better :D -- not wishing to pour cold water, etc., but beads and coasters don't mix very easily, I suspect...

Mabel they are really lovely, wonderful to see them altogether. A good idea to have them on display. Years ago we used to have oblong wooden coffee tables with glass inserts on the wooden top (think they were called 'Long John tables' but not sure). Anyway people often put items under the glass so they were on display. I thought of doing it with my collection of bookmarks but DH wasn't keen on the idea. Oh well, can't always win :x Thanks for sharing, they are great :whoop:

I've been doing a little further stitching on my two shisha experiments, and somehow (how do these things just happen?) I suddenly had a little shisha flower card...

The leaves are just a tiny bit sparkly because of a strand of blending filament. I used fishbone stitch edged with stem stitch for the leaves, and stem stitch for the stem (no really :-))

In preparation for a workshop in aid of our church's building fund I'd been scribbling small shisha ideas, but they were all rather too large and complicated for a 2-hour class. But this flower is really quite quick, so I've got my workshop project!

(If you're in the Rugby area and would like to join the class, you can find more info here)

Those cards work really well and if your participants have some experience with a needle, it's a most satisfactory little learning project. I couldn't quite see how to incorporate shisha mirrors into my embroidery world, but I can now. :) I wonder if cut out pieces of shiny card would substitute for those who don't have the mirrors? Or even small curtain rings, bound with buttonhole stitch on top of lovely fabric?... I know Mary Corbet uses cut card for practice, but is it possible to make a virtue of necessity?

Serinde, I didn't want to use up more of my small stock of mirrors so the shiny bit in this flower card is actually silver card cut to size; the shiny bits in the two experiments were flat 24mm sequins (a bit big, 18mm or 3/4" works better) which are also easier to find than shisha mirrors, so there are pplenty of options!
Yesterday I bought some 20mm dyed shell sequins at my LNS, smoky blue ones for me and yellow ones to use as the flower centres for the workshop for those who want to (there will be mirrors for people who insist on being traditional :-))

Another little flower - this one uses the daisy shape, and the centre is a disc of dyed shell which I'm very pleased with. The scroll is chain stitch (in floche), the leaf fly stitch edged with stem stitch (in silk - I love working with silk! Bit expensive to put in the kits though :-( )

Image

After finishing the flower I put some spangles on the fabric, just to see wat the effect would be really. DH prefers the flower-only, I rather like it with its halo, so I'm going to add the dots for them to my drawing, then I can choose when transferring the design whether or not to use them.

I've never tried stitching with floche. Must do one day. I like the spangly halo -- fills the space. And your leaf shapes are becoming increasingly interesting!
