*wonders whether a trio of bees would work as a small kit to practice with various materials....* :thinks: :thinks:

For workshops I always try to have at least three stitched models for people to have a closer look at - and it also gives me an opportunity to try out minor variations :-)

This is the second of the little goldwork ones, with the daisy's centre done in gold and copper (will stick with gold only in the final version) and the bee done in wire check (which will be copper and gold instead of silver and gold in the final version). The blue flower is too dark - I'll make sure the kits have lighter colours.

As there will be no different card colours with this one (all will be framed in green, as it seems to work best) I'll probably offer a choice of pink, lilac, red or light blue for the little flower.

Actually, I quite like the dark flower, as it gives the design some contrast. Beautiful work! :)

I really like the daisy and the bee -- the special metallics work really well. If I were to be a critical friend here (emphasis on the friend!), I would say that the main problem with the little flower isn't the dark colour. It's that it is too small for the fibres to curve smoothly, the way it does on the daisy. I realise they are different types of 'thread' but I bet if you tried a slightly larger petal size, those petals would smooth out, giving the silver a chance to shine out more. (You still might want a different colour, but that's a different issue!)

Serinde, critical friend are always welcome! I see your point, but I think the buckling may be partly because I didn't cut the chips to exactly the right size. The little silver bits I actually cut longer on purpose so they would curve :-) - just goes to show not all conscious design decisions look intentional in the finished article!
One of the differences with the big daisy petals is that those are couched down continually along the length of the wire, whereas the small petals are worked like a lazy daisy, and only held down at the tip. The wire being what it is, it can't be couched down continually. But I'll see if on the third model I can make the petals a little larger and see what that does :thinks: :thinks:

A rather last-minute project I've just hooped up for my aunt's birthday. She was always known in the family as the "spring baby", having been born on 21st March, so I'm stitching her a daffodil - it's a bit of an experiment as it will use stem stitch filling with blended shades, and some gold outlining. Here's the set-up:

OK, slight rethink - the daffodil's stem in front of one of the rear petals works all right when done in stem stitch only, but outlining in gold will be a pain, so I redrew the stem, and fortunately managed to erase the transferred pencil lines on the fabric and re-draw them. All set to go now!

In gold or not in gold, the second version is more perfect, so your re-thinking was correct and timely. In gold it will look fantastic, so I am already looking forward to seeing it in all its beautfy. Happy stitching!

P.S. Do you also have a term"gold stitching" (and a derivative from it- "gold stitcher"?).
