WOW !!!!!!!!!! That turquoise fabric with the sheen of the flowers and the bling make the design jump off the fabric. :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave:

OK, now it's just cuz I'm a pal and can point this out: either the holding stitches for the fabric need to be smaller or the surrounding stitch needs to be heavier to reliably cover them. I favour the latter, of course, knowing how careful and clever you are with a needle. Of course, the idea, colour and bling are great fun! :wip:

You're absolutely right, Serinde - that was my learning point from this one. The holding stitches couldn't really be smaller without being ineffective, so either I match it to the printed fabric rather than the ground fabric, or Ido the heavy chain stitch in perle #5 instead of #8. I have the materials ready for another bauble! (And I'll have to as I've been asked whether I could do this for the next Buiding Fund workshops.... I haven't even finished this run yet :-) !)

These are all such imaginative designs Mabel but just love the Christmas trees, so different to normal ones. Well done, a great show of your versatility :tizzy: :whoop: :mexicanwave: :mexicanwave:

Finally making a start on stitching the Tree of Life, even though for now they will be mostly doodles and separate leaves to try out stitches. But at least it involves a needle and threads

I'm writing about the various stitch doodles on FoF, on and off, but here is the first proper leaf - well, the set-up for it anyway. Tracing on calico and crewel wools ready, and the stitches will be up-and-down buttonhole on the outside and French knots on the inside. I've got a fair few things on this weekend (cooking at the Men's Breakfast, teaching a workshop, Church anniversary and a baptismal service - not my own, but friends from church) but I do hope I'll manage a few stitches as well!

Sounds an interesting leaf Mabel and lovely autumnal colours too. Looking forward to seeing it stitched. :)

Remember the Butterflies I've been doing as a Beginner/Intermediate project? Here is the intermediate one, slightly smaller and worked in coton a broder:

Some threads, a few beads, - but the result is amazing. I love Mabel's works- nothing is "too much", the beauty is there in every aspect- the choice of the materials, neatness of the work, and of course, the design itself.

And it is great that she teaches (and teaches well) other people the techniques (arts) she knows. :applesauce:

Looking forward to Mabel's new designs. Happy creating, Mabel!

This will be a very good intermediate design: a variety of stitches, movement in the thread (i.e. not simply straight or parallel lines) and (usefully) starting and finishing "free" stitches.

I have a bit of a dilemma with this project :thinks: :thinks: I want to show you what I've done, BUT this may in time become a SAL and I don't want large pictures of it to float round the internet beforehand! So they'll just be small pics to give you an idea of what I'm doing, and to show that I'm not being idle :-)

At the moment I am stitching separate leaves from my Tree of Life design to try out different stitch possibilities. They are worked on heavy-weight calico using crewel wools. Unfortunately the yellows I chose for the second leaf didn't really vary enough so you can't see that the lattice is double, in two shades :-(

How interesting to see the same shapes look so different due to the different stitches. It really is lovely. I found with the gown of Angel that the blended threads often did not show up when looking at the wider view.

Sounds exciting doing another SAL
