Not really seen goldwork before. It's very elegant.

Not done a lot of stitching while we were at the in-laws, but I have made some progress on a stamped tapestry kit Eldest's girlfriend gave me - she brought it back for me from a family visit in Romania. It's my very first stamped project! Will take pictures, although it's a bit difficult to see which is the printing and which is my stitching :-D

Not much done yet - it's not really my thing, but it was a kind thought so I will finish it (she also gave me a larger one wih swans, but I don't know whether I'll ever get round to that...) It's quite a useful project to have for occasions when you don't want to have to take a chart and do lots of counting; it is quite fine though so good light is rather essential.

These are quite old, but posting one of my versions of this in the "Big projects" thread in the General section made me go through my project pics, and finding that I never photographed another version I did!

Anyway, here is the one I posted in the General thread, mounted in a keyring. For years it held my Mum's spare keys which we'd be given to use when we visited; now it holds our house keys.

Image

And here is a version on black 18ct aida, stuck (rather unsuccessfully) in/on a brooch - there was no insert to wrap the stitching around, and no room to make one from card, so I just had to cut it to size and glue it in  . It's been at the bottom of my jewellery box for the past 10 years or so, which is why it is rather dusty

Image

I mentioned that I was thinking of using this design (I can't remember where it came from, but I have a hand-copied chart of it in my chart folder) for the wooden pendant - then realised that it contains quarter and three-quarter stitches, which won't work on wood...

Lamentably little has happened with the Jacobean flower; I was hoping to do some work on it the afternoon before my goldwork day class, but unfortunately I got stomach flu and lived for nearly three days on water and the odd cream cracker. Not the ideal state in which to do goldwork! I did manage to get to the class and do a little work there, even though unfortunately I had to give up after a couple of hours. But I got to take the kit home, and I knew all the stitches/materials so I can finish it later. May manage to do a little over Easter!

For now here are some pics of work and kit - it's an ankle boot, and here is what I've done so far (with lots of stray ends that still need plunging [i.e. taking to the back] and fastening off):

The kit in its neat box:

And the contents a bit more close-up, to show the bling (and the beeswax heart):

I never heard of Goldwork. The result is fascinating and the material intriguing. I am looking forward to learn more :D

Hi Mabel,

If you're looking for pendants to hold cross-stitch, have you seen these?
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Kailea?ref ... eader-name

Each setting has 3 pieces - the frame, a domed insert to wrap the stitching around and a backing plate. It can be a bit of a squeeze depending on the thickness of your fabric but I've been having fun playing around with them for my Flo's Stitches business. Seeing your post about the wooden ones made me think you might be interested in these too.

Those are very pretty Flo, thanks for the link - it depends a bit what postage to the UK will be, which unfortunately is often prohibitive :-(

Looks like the box is big enough for the complementary moggie to 'Try for size'. I'm sure there are Hermit Crab genes in every cat...

Otherwise, the boot looks remarkable. Your couching is simply so fine.

Regards

Richard.

I'm getting quite practiced at couching, Richard - it's the plunging and finishing that I'm not too good at yet!
