Hi folks,

I've been hunting for a good papercraft forum to post on but I can't find one with as lovelier folks as on here so I hope it's okay to ask this here! I'm making all of my wedding stationary so I'm trying my hand at all sort of paper crafting stuff - embossing has been a success, but I've found the most gorgeous stamp set that I fell in love with, so I'm trying to understand what stamping involves!

If I buy a set (the one I'm after is a Hunkydory one if that makes any difference!) what do I then need? Can I stamp in black ink and then colour once printed or is the idea to colour the stamp itself? Is there a certain type of card I need for this sort of thing?

I think these all might be me being daft, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks very much,
Becky

 Hello and welcome to the forum. You are right when you say the lovliest people are here. I know nothing about paper crafts or stamps, but some one here might. We have quite a few members who do more than one craft, so hopefully someone will be able to advise you. Good luck with your stationary.

Hiya my aunt does all this kind of thing and she always stamped the outline with a darkish colur it does not have to be black but you do want it to show up and then once dry coloured them in, she has done ones with chalk but you have to mind they don't get too smudgy, felt tip, wax crayon and watercolour paint if you are really arty.
Most of the stamps sold now are just the rubber bit so you will need to by at least one acrylic block a little bigger than the largest stamp you buy, you just dampen them a teeny bit and they self adhere then you just peel it off when you want to change it for the next one.
Another tip is to put the stamp face up on the table and gently tap the ink onto it so it only goes on the raised area and practise on some cheap paper until you get the pressure just right as some card or prebought cards can run expensive if you don't get it right a few times.

Good luck with it and i hope they come out wonderfully :)

There are a few ways of stamping (my sister who I lived with up until a week ago stamps.. I've just looked over her shoulder)
She has some stamps that come in 2 parts.. the base stamp, and then an outlining stamp. So she can do the body of a stamp in one color.. say a flower, or leaf or something, then do a top stamp (which would be the outline, veins of a leaf, petal detail.. that sort of thing) in either another color. Think of the top stamp as you would backstitching. Those stamps always come as a set.

She also has some that are just an outline. Once stamped, you can play around a little- coloring them in with pencil and such, but it can be tricky. Nothing with paint- extra water and the stamp ink could run.

Ink pads come in any color of the rainbow.. and even rainbow colored if thats what you want.

Our basement is full of supplies.. but I don't think you need much to get started. She has this little tray which has a fine scrubbie thingie on the bottom, she puts a little soap and water into the tray for washing off her stamps after every few impressions- keeps lines sharp when doing a lot with the same pad.
