Thanks! Can't take credit for the colours. The yarn just does that. I used about the cheapest thing I could find for this experiment, which was Lyon Brand Unique "Jewel". The important thing for me is that it came in at 100m to 100g. (The yarn I used for the baby blanket was even thicker: 80m/100g)

Here's a little sample of some textural weaving I've been having fun with lately. The original is about 2.5inches square. I didn't actually finish the top properly (nothing to stop all the weaving falling off the warp!), I was thinking about what else I wanted to weave when I took it off the loom. Oops. So I put it into this card. (Only one I had that fit.) The selvage was pretty straight, so I'm starting to get it in regard to tension.

The eagle-eyed will notice that I have included some pearl cotton in this weaving. Caron Watercolours -- all three strands unseparated -- works really well on this (woven at 8epi with 12/6 warp) in the 5th band (I think it's 'winter evening' or something like that). I also tried a combination of 2 strands of DMC 4150 with one of Anchor 1375 (called Harlequin) which resulted in the little pops of colour in the 3rd row down. I may use that combination for a thing I have in mind...

Lovely colours and I would love to stroke it to feel all the textures. It is a good idea to make it into a card!

Very nice textures....did the latch hook help you?

Thanks everyone, for you kind words.

As for the latch hook -- not this time. The warp ends are the bits currently taped down to hold the piece in place. Never fear, however! I will be using it to weave in the warp ends on another project soon. :P

You are totally amazing Serinde and I always wonder what amazing piece of craft work will emerge for me to drool over. Love the little weaving one and its final designation. :whoop: :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:

Here's my first little weaving on my Hokett loom (8-dent), which I have declared to be a winter sunrise. I warped it to 8epi and used a combination of "heavy" yarns from Weaver's Bazaar, mostly 5/2 and 6/2 (which is being discontinued) since that was what I had to hand. The darker bottom colours (which are actually aubergine and purple) are woven with a single yarn; most of the shapes above are woven with two strands of 6/2. As it happened, the 6/2 was slightly thinner than the 5/2, but Not Thin Enough! Which is why the sides bulge slightly -- too much weft! Live and learn. But the colour combinations were fun (exactly like having two different threads in the needle). Not sure how I'll finish it yet, but I will tuck that white warp behind the piece along the line of raised stitching (soumak) so it won't show. The whole piece is 3 x 3.5 inches.

And, of course, a gal can't start a new hobby without stash... These are 40 25g balls of a medium-weight worsted yarn (mostly 9.5/2) from the wonderful folk at Weaver's Bazaar., which is slightly fatter than, say, Renaissance Dyeing or Langley crewel wools (which I have also turned my greedy eye towards, since I have some in my stash and can't see why I shouldn't use them...).

Lovely colour combination! And seeing what the various weights of thread/yarn do is all part of the process. Nice bit of stash too :-)
