I've been wanting to try this for a while, but it's not too easy to get the materials needed in the UK. So when I found the Blackberry lane kit I just had to buy it

Can't wait to get started now.

Oops, pressed submit too quickly there

I meant to say that the floss used is Edmar rayon. It's a very 'springy' thread and you are told to steam it before using it  (It's also very beautiful though :D )

this is what i think of when i see "embroidery". i love that sort of thing. i must say that i have used rayon thread in some xs and while it is a pain to work with, the end result is worth it. it has a such a pretty shine and tactile pleasure!

I'm really looking forwards to hearing about this work. So different isn't it.
The colours are lovely and I hopr steaming makes the rayon behave.

I'd never heard of this technique, so I googled it to find out more. It looks great, so I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with it now.

I've seen those threads at the London Bead Co, very shiny! But they may indeed be a little temperamental to work with...

Is the technique different from "ordinary" freestyle embroidery, or does it use the same types of stitches?

Ah, just Wikipedia-ed it and it says the difference is the fact that it's done using rayon threads instead of wool or cotton. So you could presumably use any embroidery pattern and stitch it in rayon -- useful to know, it means there's millions of designs out there :-)!

Thanks Maggs, there are some beautiful freebies there.

Well, I've steamed the floss - very easy as long as you don't let the iron touch the thread :D and it certainly seems to tame the springyness a bit. Mabel, I'm not sure if there is any difference in this to ordinary embroidery, except that you use Edmar rayon floss (nice for Edmar!). I'm hoping to get on with this today so I'll post an update soon.

This has been a real pleasure to work on. The stitches aren't difficult and you get to knot your thread without feeling guilty!!! The very glossy thread is lovely to work with, although I'm not so keen on the boucle one.

That's lovely and so different from what we usually do. What stitch are the flowers please?

This is turning out beautifully Susan. I love how it's all different textures and is 3d. Does the blue wash off after?
