Re: Update and apology

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Well, I'm back from London and still alive :-)

Seriously, in spite of the coach journey being rather tiring -- especially on the way back, when London traffic was so snarled up that at one point it took us 50 minutes to travel 500 yards   -- we had a lovely time, it was great to see my friends, we had a scrumptious meal at our Lebanese place and later an equally scrumptious tea at some little place we came across unexpectedly near the Victoria & Albert, we had a sunny and relaxing walk through Hyde Park and saw lots of interesting things at the V&A, including some beautiful textiles and embroideries. Not the quilting exhibition or the Grace Kelly exhibition, alas, as they were sellig only "timed tickets" and the earliest one they had was for 5pm. Still we saw a great many beautiful things, and it was wonderful to catch up with them both. My back behaved quite well -- the treatment must be working   , but unfortunately the tummy is still being a terrible nuisance. Never mind, we had a great time!

Hi Mabel,

I'm new here, but wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear you've been having problems, and I hope that the tummy troubles are sorted soon.

You may well find that the Bowen therapy helps the tummy as well though, it triggers the body into healing itself, so can help all kinds of problems, not just muscular skeletal ones. I'm very glad its helping your back, it can be a wonder treatment! I had a bad back after a fall from a horse when I was a kid, whiplash injury and used to have to go to a chiropractor every 2 weeks - 3 Bowen sessions and it was so much better. It hardly ever causes a problem now, even though I don't have a therapist near by to give me maintenance sessions! I am actually a Bowen therapist myself (and Reiki teacher) as I was so impressed by its effectiveness on both people and horses - I'm half trained for horses but had to stop as I have a stupid neurological illness, but even so I use it on my own and friends horses and dogs to great effect.

Big hugs

Thanks Niki, it's very helpful to hear from others who have tried the therapy! Like you I've had a nasty fall off a horse (was dragged around on my back) and a whiplash caused by a bus accident, so that may all have something to do with the problems that emerged later. Hope it will help the tummy too, as you say it may -- at the moment it's being rather worse; but I'm thinking perhaps it's because I don't feel my back so much that I notice the tummy more :-)!

That might be the case Mabel, but it could also be a form of a healing crisis - things getting worse before they get better...

But pain perception is a very funny thing.

Horses are darn dangerous things aren't they?? I've got so many creaks and scars from them, mind you, usually from doing something stupid. I got dragged through a large patch of nettles the other day by my precious, beloved git of a horse!!

Bowen is a body work therapy - it works on the fascia over the muscle, small movements over specific spots that are over neurovascular bundles and other energy lines or nodes - the fascia is connected all over the body, so a small vibration in one area can have an affect on another area. Its appears to trigger the body into healing itself. It's very gentle and very powerful. It has energy aspects like Reiki etc but has enough basis in physiology to appease the medics! There was a medical trial which showed how effective it was for frozen shoulders after masectomy's.

Its very good for muscular problems and neurological problems but also can help things like lung problems and gut problems. If there is a big skeletal problem I tell clients to go to see a chiropractor (usually McTimmony) and then have Bowen after that as the Bowen works slower on bones, but stops muscles snapping back after the chiro treatment.

I really hope that it will help Mabel's tummy issues.

Hugs

I see the consultant on June 10th -- I asked my local surgery but they said as they hadn't ordered the tests (the consultant did) they don't get the results, so I'll have to wait. I assume that if something was terribly wrong they'd have let me know by now...

I'm so sorry you have had these troubles, Mabel, it's rotten. A good day out with understanding pals in London seems to have been an excellent tonic for you, and the sooner you have the test results the quicker you will be able to make health plans. Not knowing is... tedious (at best!). :shamrock:

There is the saying "No news is good news" right? I'm sure that's the case... and yet..still a mystery of why there's tummy troubles. The Bowen treatments sounds very facination...how great if it eventually helps our with the tummy troubles :x:

Arrghh - another 10 days for you to wait! But you are right - if it was something really serious they'd have seen you right away. :)
