I need to build up my collection of fabrics, and was wondering if anyone could recommend online stores that sold hand-dyed/sparkling fabric.

I know of Polstitches and Sparklies

What I wanna know is whether they are reliable and ship in reasonable time frames. I don't want to wait 2 to 3 months to receive my fabrics!

Thanks.

Hi Zeb!

Here are a few other sites for you: The Crafty Kitten (UK based) and Stitches and Spice (a bit closer to you!).

Re Sparklies - for each fabric colour there is a drop down menu where you make your fabric choice, if it is available there will be an option for Opal or Silver. All of Sparklies fabrics (I think!) are dyed to order so there will be a bit of a delay from placing your order and getting your hands on it - just in case you were in a rush for it!

Can't wait to see what fabrics you'll go for!

2 US companies that do beautiful hand dyed sparkly fabrics are Picture This Plus and Silkweavers. The service is much better at Picture This Plus. I am not sure what their international shipping rates are though......

I use Picture This Plus as well. I've been extremely happy with the service. I'm in their Fabric of the month club, and I usually receive my order within the week of payment being sent.

Thanks to Karen4bells, I recently discovered this wonderful place: Youthful Hands Needle Crafts. They have some really lovely hand-dyed fabrics which are all available in 28ct opalescent Lugana. And the customer service is great! Shipping is fast, I received my order within a week--in-stock items, of course. And international shipping starting at $2.50 US dollars, which is much cheaper than some of the stores I've seen charging.

I've ordered from Picture this Plus and was very happy.

Be careful with sparkly fabrics as sometimes the sparkly is a spray on rather than interwoven - I was caught that way once 8{ by the time I finished stitching all the sparkly had come off the fabric and onto everything else.

Thanks everyone :)
Won't be getting much sleep tonight!

Myst how can we tell if the fabric is sprayed on?

I think you just have to ask ... I know Picture this Plus's are all interwoven.

Hi Zeb.Stitches and Spice have some yummy sparkly fabrics but are in my opinion very expensive,.Also I'm doing Peacock Lady on their Peacock Fantasy sparkly at the moment and it seems to me that the fabric thread(it's 28ct Lugana) seem to split. This only happens with the sparkly fabric, almost as if putting the sparkle thread in causes the two components of the Lugana to separate.maybe it's just me

I have found the same with opalescent 28ct Lugana, which is woven in but does need careful stitching so that you don't take your needle through the fabric thread. With a bit of care it's fine though, and it looks great!
I know Fabric Flair's sparklies are sprayed on (saw them at the Knitting & Stitching show).
