I'm with Mrs MBK. I mostly use scroll frames with my beloved Lowery. I can't imagine stitching without it, it even comes in the caravan with us. :oops:

But I am using an R and R (Q snap type) frame for Rhyme and Reason, as it is so wide that the scroll frame would need to be very long indeed. I will do my Sistine Chapel on a scroll frame though, as it is much narrower. Not long until 1st April :dance:

I've always used a hoop. I recently acquired a q snap and like it also. I like the hoop for smaller projects and the q snap for the haed's.

Unless for very small projects, I always use a hoop, preferably a flexihoop (which I managed to get up to 10"). I've tried Q-snaps and they were OK, but just too heavy for me. I stitch curled up in my comfy chair most of the time and whatever hoop or frame I use needs to be easy to hold.
I have just ordered an Easy Clip scroll frame, though, because I have foolishly gone and designed two long and narrow designs that won't fit into a hoop :-)

. I'll let you know how I get on with it.
(Another consideration is that most of my designs are square, whereas my hoops are round. Not a good combination. I'm hoping the scroll frame will be useful for my larger designs)

I was still very young then (about 12) and even stopped showing people my work, was terrified someone would look at the backs of my projects or see me stitching in hand and not following the basic guidelines of stitching in order to achieve a perfect back.

You are so right!! Why is it that some people who are or think they are experts always ready to put you down when they see you doing something that is not up to their so-called standards. I've had that experience. Not with stitching (yet) but with other things. It can be very off-putting and make you want to give up altogether.

Ok I am using the Stitchers Wonder rotating scroll frames and love both I have, better than the hoops. But I have to ask what is a qsnap this one is new to me.

How different we all are with our likes and dislikes, I have a Hearthside Craftworks Mark 2 Floor Stand with scroll rods, this frame has a special spring at the side so you flip it over and back with no undoing of screw or knobs, for Haed's it is perfect, I love my frame and stand, I can do ANY width of fabric and any length and it comes in the caravan with me! Am off to have another look at the Sistine Chapel, oh my fingers itch every time I think of it!

I am a Q gal too. I had/have a frame and scrolls but don't use them since it makes my back hurt to lean over or sit in one spot very long. Not to mention my projects have gotten smaller! I quit stitching all together after my divorce...it was somewhat due to money since I had to see some of my most favourite VS, etc. kids but mostly since my ex used to compliment my work all the time. It just brought back too many memories! (He ran off with someone younger, fyi) My kids think stitching is silly but I finally got it out of my head that I cared what anyone thought...of my stitching at all or whether I used hoops, etc. As someone else mentioned here, I am over showing the backs of my work - to me stitching is like painting with floss. Since I can't paint any other way, my Q snaps and projects are my fun on the weekend and in the evening when I can. Looking forward to seeing why everyone else works either with Qsnaps or rods, etc. What a wonderful forum!

I started out on a hoop and still find it my favourite way to stitch. I bought a QSnap style frame and couldn't get on with as it was too heavy to sit comfortably in my lap. Like many of you have mentioned I stitch curled up on the sofa and so find a hoop easier. I also cannot stitch two-handed so wouldn't invest in a frame.

I agree that stitching is an individual as the person and that we all find our own way. The important part is that we enjoy our fabulous hobby :wub:

I use both qsnaps and hoops. i think I like hoops better, but this is where I run into tension problems. I like to use a 6 or 7 inch hoop. That way I can still use my thumbnail as a laying tool. the qsnaps are tight if you get it on there right and adjust. But, I find them really hard to remove and I've lost fingernails doing it. I found a really long time ago that I had to give up on wood hoops, they just would not stay tight.
