Happy News

Post by Rose »

My daughter is getting married in Oct. She was asked in December but for a number of reasons they only annouced to us and his parents at that time. She finally made the official announcement 2 weeks ago. In the mean time we have been getting her dress and the venue and all the other stuff organized. My daughter is a list maker and like to have stuff done sooner rather then later. I am amazed at the whole process of this thing so much has changed since I got married. All this new BS that people expect now. Gifts for the wedding party. Party favors for the guests, gifts to the parents. What the hell no wonder wedding are so damned expressive. She is having her fiances 3 nieces (all sisters 1 will be 4 at the time and the twins will be almost 2) as flower girls and of course it is expected to give them a gift. You know when we got married it was an honor to be asked to be part of the ceremony and you did not have to bribe them to get them to agree.

So yesterday hubby and I had to go and pick up a motor from a customer and the ride up is about 2 3/4 hours. I couldn't easily take either of my stitching projects. 2 days ago I had recieved my crochet magazine and in there was the cutest pattern. I thought if I could do this in the colors of the wedding then it might be a cute gift for one of the girls. If my daughter likes it I will make a matching kitty in some of the other colors for the other twin amd then make something for the big sister.

I think it turned out really good. It is called the Patchwork Dog. It sorta reminds me of the Gingham dog and the Calico cat story.

Congratulations on your daughter's upcoming wedding and WOW there is a lot to do, nowadays isn't there. I guess that is why we eloped 18 years ago and that was still not quite as much. I think your patchwork puppy is precious and a kitty would be a great gift. So much nicer than purchased presents, I think.

Wow, congratulations to your DD!

I hope all goes smoothly with the preparations.
And then, of course, there must be a wedding sampler stitched, too.

Fantastic news, I bet you're all so looking forward to the big event.

I think if we get hitched we will slope off and so it, so much cheaper and less hassle!!!

The dog is gorgeous and will be a perfect for little girls. I'm sure they'll love it more than something shop bought and will provide hours of cuddles. Great idea Rose :D

Congratulations to your daughter  Hope the planning goes well! ( I decided on a very small, low key and cheap wedding because the whole thing seemed so daunting  )

Your dog is adorable  Did it only take you the car journey time? I keep looking at learning to crochet especially seeing cute finishes like this one :D

Thanks all, they are doing a great job organizing. She already has her dress ordered and it will be ready for fittings in June. They have the venue booked and put a down payment on it. The venue provides all the catering and table clothes and cutlery for one very reasonable price so that is taken care of. She has a close friend that is going to do the pictures for cheap. Her boss has told her that she will provide the cake for her (benifit of working in a bakery  ) They are going to talk to their officiant this week and book her if they both agree that they like what she does. So very lots of stuff already booked and ready.

They plan on making their own invitations and my sister has offered some of her stamps so they can decorate them so that is handled so they are well ahead with most of the plans. They want to pay for it themselves so it will be a nice small celebration somewhere around 75-85. So other then her dad saying he is paying for the dress they are doing it on their own. They said it is their wedding so they want to do it. I am just drug along to bounce ideas off as is his mom. So it is interesting to watch it all.

She is a very organized person and makes all sorts of list all the time so I am sure that it will be a well oiled machine by the time Oct comes around.

Yes I started it on the way up and then it got to dark on the way back to finish the last leg and tail so I just finished when we got home. I love to crochet it goes so fast. When I need a quick present it is usually a crocheted gift.

As far as the wedding sample I am not sure. I am not a big fan of samplers really but I am thinking of doing a stitched picture once we get the photos back after the ceremony. Not sure yet.

Many congratulations to your daughter Rose :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: Weddings are fun, though, yes, horrifically expensive now  We dispensed with favours and did the table decorations ourselves to save some of the cost and it was still a lot for a fairly small wedding - only 65 guests.

The dog is lovely and such a nice thought for a bridesmaid gift :D

Many congratulations, both on the news of your daughter's wedding and on creating such a perfect present for the flower girls -- that dog is adorable! (and I agree on the "honoured to be asked" thing; we did give small presents to some of those taking part in our wedding, but they came as a complete surprise to them, they didn't expect them in advance :-)! )
