Can't find my mistake!! :(

Post by CarolinaGirl »

Anyone ever "mess up" somewhere on a project, although you have counted & counted & can not find your mistake anywhere??? And then move to a different area of the pattern and hope it all meets up somewhere??? I'm just off a stitch--- but I can't find my screw up anywhere!! I know it's best to fix it now-- but how can u fix something you can't find! LOL!

This is the exact reason why I haven't continued on my Aurora Cabin, because I can't find the mistake. Plus the stitches are all 6 strand so if I unpick its gonna stretch the fabric :(

yes, that's happened to me, too. :(

and I've just matched it up as best i could when i got back to the connecting place.

i've even stitched the correct color OVER the error color, rather than frog it!

so many ways to deal with a miscount, or whatever. hope you find what you're comfortable with. it's all good, no matter what...

I don't even want to think about how many times that has happened to me over the years. I think that is why I love the fact that I learned about gridding here on the forum. It has saved me several times from having to do huge amounts of :ribbit: . On those projects that I don't grid now, I still make the counting error sometimes. and sometimes I leave it because it doesn't effect the design, sometimes I :ribbit: and sometimes do what pattibelle suggested and stitch over the mistake. Depends on what the mistake is and which is the best thing to do.

I HATE it when that happens! I'm so AR that I can't move on to another part until I find the mistake (I also have to balance my checkbook to the penney).

Would you like help looking? (can you get a close-up enough photo of the piece & of the area in the chart....just a thought.)

Yup! Actually, the last time it happened to me my hubby (who isn't a stitcher and knows very little about stitching) was the one that found my mistake. I'd look and looked and couldn't find where my missing row was supposed to be. He looks at it for 2 minutes and finds it right away. Do you have someone around who'd be willing to look for you? Sometimes it just takes a new set of eyes.

Whew! Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for al the comments.... I've actually figured it out now,,, but it's one of those that you don't really want to take it all back out.....because you've already gotten so far. I've been stitching all day so I think I'm tired and should probably stop for the day before I make more mistakes!!!!! :). Have a great weekend y'all!!

Yup has happened to me. Just leave it for a day or so and when you pick it up again it'll be staring you in the face. Failing that, start on a different section, but close enough to meet up quickly, and it'll probably show were you have gone wrong that way.

That is one of a stitchers worst nightmares, and sooo frustrating. Thank goodness you found it. :D
I've found my mistakes are fewer since I started to grid.

I usually get a friend to look at the project for me. Sometimes fresh eyes can do the trick.

Oh yes that's happened to me a couple times. Right now I have a mistake that I can't find but luckily it's in the background. So I'll just leave it an fix it later.

The worst one though was with blended threads. It covered the bottom half and it was kind of like a chunky outline of the bottom half. But I had a mistake. Couldnt find it and a friend had found it for me. Had to rip up all my blended stitches and order more thread cause I was working from a kit.

Good thing you found it though.

I can't believe how much i've been messing up lately! At the moment it's the border around a graduation plaque type thing. I went through learning the scotch stitch and was doing great until i got to the second corner on the bottom and it just does'nt match up right. I think I"m off by two threads and I can't seem to make it work. And here I am planning all these new projects...I feel like I'm going to mess them all up if I keep going the way I am.
