Floss question

I was looking at the floss I need for my HAED and it calls for

DMC 032 Kreinik #4

I went to 123 stitch to see what it looks like and it says "item not available". I'm heading to Joann's later today but was wondering if this is a specialty thread?


I don't recall seeing that number with the standard cotton DMC floss.

LOL don't you just love it, I am pretty sure that it has too much info for the thread, leave off the DMC, I've seen that before, what you need is #4 kreinik braid in color 032

Or - just to be different like me - you could sub the Kreinik for Petite Treasure Braid in PB10........ !

Great suggestion--I love working with petite treasue braid, it's just not as easy to get here

How weird seeing as Rainbow Gallery are based in California! 123.stitch don't stock PTB (which I find odd), but Stitching Bits and Bobs seem to have most colours.

Yeah I am not sure why they add the DMC to that number it has confused many of us. It is just Krenick.

I use Krenick on lots of my angels and it was always nice to work with.

It is annoying but apparently the software that Michele uses to chart will not let her get rid of the DMC part - according to HAED BB info.

I wrote to 1-2-3 about the lack of PTB and they told me it isn't a resale item ... not really sure what they meant.

Great suggestion--I love working with petite treasue braid, it's just not as easy to get here

I agree, if you can get your hands on the Petite Treasure Braid, it is much nicer to work with than the Krenik!

I think you can also substitute DMC D5200 if your LNS doesn't have the #4 (correct me if I'm wrong, ladies)

Yep you can sub B5200 - I'm planning on doing that for Dafodils as I don't want a sky full of kreinik but may use PTB for sparkles required elsewhere in the chart.

When I got to Joann's, I couldn't find the Kreinik right off the bat as I didn't know what type of packaging I was looking for. While there, I did a search on my phone to see if there was a DMC equivelant and it brought up E5200. I had it in my hand when I noticed the Kreinik and was wondering what I should get as I know nothing about metallics. I went with the Kreinik since that IS what the chart calls for and I don't know enough to make swapping decisions just yet

I'll keep the PTB in mind for the future!

Calico, in my opinion, you definitely made the right choice. The dmc would have looked fine, but I think you would have not liked using it at all!! Kreinik is sooooooo much easier to handle than dmc's metallics!! So glad you were able to find it!

I don't want a sky full of kreinik

The magpie in me is offended - what do you mean you don't want a sky full of sparklies?!? I can't think of nothing more magnificent (yeah my tapestry teacher says my sparklies are tacky too but no one will ever stop me )

Trust me - I'm a mapgpie and will shoehorn in metallics and beads and crystals any way I can into a piece! 15,000 stitches of kreinik was even too much for me - I think it was more about the texture of the sky (which sounds stupid I know) and it not blending with the other colours with big chunks of kreinik. I may go over the top of it with some blending filament yet not sure!

Hello. I am new to the Cross Stitch Forum and am very excited to have found all of you fellow stitchers.
Can I go back to the DMC 032 Kreinik #4 question? I just purchased HAED Paradise Found. This calls for DMC 032. I have to admit that I don’t branch out very often from the normal DMC colors. Is there a regular DMC alternative that you might suggest I try? It looks to be a pearl color. Maybe white?
