:( :( :( Well I went to the hospital who did a number of tests, different to those done by the optician. Although my optician had told me that I was within the parameters for the cataract to be removed, the hospital didn't agree. :(

It seems now that I will have to have a new pair of distance glasses, around £200, and probably a new pair of reading glasses as well, another £200!!!

I don't know what a pair of bi-focals would cost, but they must be at least £200.

I have got to have new ones anyway as my driving licence expires in July and my sight doesn't allow me to read a number plate at the required distance, quite apart from the fact that I have difficulty in reading the football scores on the television and doing my stitching.

But hey-ho I'm getting two new hearing aids at the end of May and my teeth are all ok, and the falsies don't need adding to so I must be in reasonable shape for an old 'un.

Oops, I nearly forgot, my thanks to everybody for your good wishes, it is nice to know that there are so many caring people out there.

Awww Frank, that's too bad. . Annoying and confusing that the optician says one thing and the hospital says another. I suppose the hospital is the 'expert' over the optician, so they should know best. At least you won't have to go through having an operation, although £400 for new glasses - ouch :( !!

I hope the new glasses sort your sight out. You can't miss out on reading those football scores (although it depends what team you support!!!  ) or, more importantly, doing your stitching!!

I'm sorry to hear what the hospital decided. I guess they must have the final say? You have a great attitude about it though. I hope the glasses will help. The cost sounds about what glasses can cost here too, though it usually depends mostly on the frames. I've been using old frames over and over and think next time, I'm going to have to cave and get new frames also. I don't think bifocals cost me that much more. I don't think I could do without them now. Do you have a magnifier lamp for stitching. I'm sure that would help tremendously.

Oh Frank, what a disappointment! I hope the new glasses will help you drive/stitch/see football scores again until such time when they do feel you qualify.
