Gardenia Bonsai

Post by Jess03 »

I thought about puting up my SAL after catching up and reading everyone elses, but there are so many!! And they're all very gorgeous, so I thought what the hey I'll just post mine now hehe

So this is my main "big" but not very big project. It is my first proper one I would say seeing as before I have only ever done cards or freebie magazine ones.
I was also abit adventurous as it is done on linen and not aida, but I think I'm managing !

So this is the cross stitch: it is called "Gardenia Bonsai" and here is what it should look like finished:

And this is my progress as of 18th July 08:

I have added to it since then, but will post my next pic up soon ^^

This is nice! :applesauce: ...and I admire you for doing it on linen! :applesauce: I've not yet tried it...only used aida eversince I started (10 yrs. now). :)

I've just visited your site and love your projects...love your Purrfect Partners...I like Margaret Sherry designs...so far, I have done 3 of her cat designs... (((but of course...butterflies tops my list of favorites...hehe  ))))

Happy stitching! Take care!

Oh wow this is really pretty. I love the color you have chosen to stitch it on.

Brave girl for stitching in linen. 20+ years and I still have not tried any evenweave or linen. I only do aida and waste canvas.

Looking forward to updates.

It's really lovely! :applesauce:
I really am in awe of you going onto linen as well. I had a go at some linen, but had to put it aside for awhile as I can't see the holes properly and it's so uneven (to what I'm use to).
I'm going to work my way up to another attempt by going through some evenweaves first.
Did you find it difficult to get going on this fabric or has it just been fairly straight forward to you? At anyrate, I take my hat off to you.

*Is in total awe*

Good for you. This is going to be lovely, and you have made a good start.

Linen isn't difficult! And with your young eyes, seeing it properly won't be a problem either. Long may you experiment with fabrics -- there are bunches of wild and wacky things out there.

That's a beautiful project, good luck with it.

I don't find stitching on linen difficult at all - but then I started cross stitch on evenweave, since that is traditional cloth for Hungarian folk patterns. I would recommend everyone to try it out... For some patterns it adds an extra effect, I believe.

very elegant,I find my stitching takes twice as long on linen,I guess it's the counting that takes the time and I should put my glasses on  looking forward to more pics.

Thank you all for the comments, nice to be sharing my WIP with like minded people :D My mum actually thought aida was a company name when I first told her about it

I'm enjoying using linen, my only problem is that it's taking so long to do because of the extra counting >.< But I'm getting the hang of it. Also makes it useful that I love the design (have always had a passion to create oriental themed cross stitch pieces! :D)

Charmagne; I love your website also, can tell that you're a butterfly fan! :D Which 3 MS designs have you done? I love the cuteness and humour in her designs ^^
ThreadBear; I did make a major mistake when I first tried it. The instructions that came with it confused me slightly and I didnt notice that you have to stitch over 2 holes until a whole row of stitching!!  Good thing that I looked up stitching on linen after I thought it looked abit strange heh

Hi, Jess! Thanks for visiting my site...I am really a butterfly fan eversince I can remember... I love seeing them fluttering by when I was just a child! :)

And as for Margaret Sherry cat designs...I did: Purr-flexed, Clever Clog Kitty and Coffee and Cuddles. The last one I had put on the SAL thread:
http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... f=6&t=2536" target="_blank
...as I've made some personal additions on the background of the design.

Take care!
