Need Replacement for DMC 781

[Solitaire]

DMC 781 has been discontinued and I can't use DMC782 as a replacement as it's also used in my chart, any ideas what I can use.

I've just checked my stash and I don't have one of this colour, or I would send it to you.

You might be lucky and be able to get hold of a skein from one of the online thread sellers (like Donna at Cross stitch Heaven)

Your other option would be to convert it to Anchor. I did this and the online chart I consulted http://yarntree.com/019dmccn.htm converted the thread to Anchor 308. I'm not sure how close the colours are because I know DMC have a wider range of colours

Thanks I'm ordering from Donna and Tilton Crafts say to use 782, but I think I will use the Anchor colour

Donna doesn't sell Anchor but 783 is very similar to 781

Thanks for the offer, it's very kind of you both but I'm not certain, the chart says 1 skein but I've changed the fabric so I could need more.

I checked my floss and I do have some 781, but it isn't a full skein. If it was, I would have been happy to send it to you. But, I'm glad you found a good match...they are very close.

If you have access to the DMC color chart (either the physical one stores sell, or the one on line), it can help you replace colors that are either no longer made or that you just don't like that much. I use mine a lot as I have a habit of buying kits and then changing out the fabric and some of the floss.

I think if a number is in the () that is has been discontinued and they list it like that on the skein DMC suggests to substitute?
I may be wrong though.

I've looked at all the colours and think I've found a replacement and put in my order with Cross Stitch Heaven ( skeins are only 39p) and I've emailed Donna asking if she has the time could she check that the cololur will be all right

Jumping in here late with my 2 bits. If the chart is calling for 781 and 782 then I would just use the same color for both. The shades are not that far off and the shading on the chart can not be that crucial that the finish would be drastically altered if you just used the same color for both.

I think I am a bit lazy when it comes to shading some times so that is just my idea.

I've just looked at my 781 and 782 and they are undistinguishable even in good light. I'd just use the one, but if you think it might matter you could find another shade that works well.

I agree; when I place mine side by side, I can't tell the difference.

Thats because it is the same colour I have 2 DMC colour charts and 781 is not on either just 782

So its either a very old chart pre 2006 or a mistake

Oh my gosh i just reccently purxhased aone 781...2 skeins in fact 99 bottles calls for it....if i can find more want me to ship it to you?

The chart is dated 2003 and the designer is aware of the problem and has said to use 782, I have only ordered 1 colour of each skein to start with, just to get going. l'll see where these 2 colours are in the pattern when I get to them.

I think it's only in Europe that 781 has been replaced, it's very kind of everybody to offer to send the skein but the cost would be more than the floss
