Well.it's another boring subject, I know....
Now for something completely different, number 2:
2 more ukes in the pipeline - this is a piccolo - smallest - 2 sopranos half complete and 1 tenor finished. Just need to learn how to play them.
The things which give me some relief from stitching....(joke, I love stitching)

Not at all boring---I had a beginner's ukelele when I was a child and never did much with it---it would be fun to try learning now though!!! I love the looks of this one!!

Nothing boring here that is a wonderful Ukelele. It is just beautiful. I can not hold a tune in a bucket either with an instrument or with my voice but I love to sit and listen. My son has taught himself to play the guitar.

I would love to have learned to play the banjo. DH & neighbours wouldn't enjoy me learning so will stick with needlecrafts I can't read music anyway, looks like a foreign language to me but I can hear a slightly out of tune instrument so would have to play by ear
Ooohh, another thing learned today, just found the other smilies Wondered how you got those, finding 'quote' marker & these in one day I am obviously on a roll

I agree; I love ukelele music (and most music). Some of us are meant to play and sing, some of us (me) are meant to just listen.Rose wrote:Nothing boring here that is a wonderful Ukelele. I think your ukeleles are awesome.
I also thought about playing the banjo at one time. And the drums. Really wanted to learn drums. My granddaughter was a drummer in a band when she was in high school and college. She's a petite little thing and looked funny behind the drums, but was good.

Tenor uke - easier to play (so I'm told) as frets are wider apart.
DW suggested I try busking but at my current level of musicianship people would pay me to go away....

My husband taught me to play the guitar a few years ago I found it difficult to strum and play chords at the same time I could either do one or the other it took a long time to play both at once, I hope you are getting on well with your ukulele's they play some stomping tunes

This is beautiful. My in-laws lived next to a man that made violins and his workmanship was just gorgeous. Sadly he and my in-laws are both gone now but I can remember how beautiful the wood was. He had been from Chicago and had met Al Capone several times.

Beautiful guitar. Reading the postings it reminded me when I was a schoolchild I always wanted to learn to play the drums. In the 50/60s loved Sandy Nelson playing Let There Be Drums. Then for some reason decided would love to have played the banjo. I think it great when people can play an instrument.

Re: Well.it's another boring subject, I know....
They look gorgeous. Very envious of the skill to make them.
I have wanted to make a hammer dulcimer for years, having been inspired by a reprint of Paul Hasluck's 1907 book 'Violins and other stringed Instruments - How to make them' that I have. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Violins-Other-S ... 1444647865)
However, beyond the satisfaction of making it, there is really no point. I can hold a tune in the same way as I can grip a fistful of water - it all dribbles away very fast. I'd never be able to make a coherent noise from it.
Regards,
Richard.

Re: Well.it's another boring subject, I know....
Well. I guess for me the satisfaction of lutherie is in the actual making of the instrument, and then hearing it played. I will try to learn to play the ukulele - the piccolo one was made to perhaps carry with me whilst walking the camino - a sovereign cure when arriving at a full pilgrim refuge - strum a couple of chords and the place empties....

Awesome instruments, if you ask me. I could never make anything like that, not to mention to play. My "music" would be so unpleasant no one would want to be nearby.
