Today I went to the Big Thunder Draft Horse Show, and before the competition started, there was time to visit with the horses as they were getting ready. I ran across this beautiful Percheron:
And every time he realized I (or anyone else) was taking his picture, he did this:

He was just so funny. I think I spent a good 15-20 minutes with him and he was silly the entire time. One of his handlers would put her hand on his nose and he'd act "normal" (no big toothy grin), and as soon as she'd walk away, he'd start all over again whenever he saw a camera. He's only four years old...maybe that explains some of it. And despite his silliness, he was so regal and impressive...truly stunning!

My ignorance of horses is almost total, so when I saw a beautiful animal put its ears back and bare its teeth, I thought yipes! Time to take careful steps backwards! But, no! Who knew a horse could be silly?

I knew horses could be regal, and fast, and heroic, and BIG (this was a draft horse show, after all), but he was just a clown. I still laugh when I see the pictures I took because he had us all laughing in person.
