Church embroidery exhibition in Ely

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Last Friday DH treated me to a trip to Ely cathedral, where the Royal School of Needlework have an exhibition of church embroidery, including medieval church garments and 6 of the 12 panels of the Litany of Loreto, done in goldwork and surface embroidery and quite simply blooming marvellous! It's a relatively small exhibition, just in the cathedral's Lady Chapel, but we spent wel over an hour and a half there and could have spent more if we hadn't got so cold and it was getting late.

The exhibition is on until the end of this month - if you are anywhere near Ely, do try and see it.

You can see pictures of the exhibition here, and of the Litany panels here

Definitely WOW. They are all so beautiful and just think of the hours and years of stitching some of them would have taken.

Thank you so much for sharing this Mabel what a treasure trove to see in 'the flesh'.

I was aware of this before, and it looks like a gorgeous exhibition. Might have been an excuse to visit my sister-in-law in Suffolk, if it had been possible. These are the sorts of exhibitions I really wish would somehow manage to travel so more people could enjoy them.

Oh, that sounds amazing. I wish I would have known earlier.
I'm only 15 Mon away from Ely but my week will be pretty busy.

Is it still on next Saturday?
